The Trace option in Illustrator 10 is quite good too though haven't had time to look at it properly yet...
Will look into CorelTrace...

Using the "Trace Bitmap" under the Modify menu, it does prefer to use PNG32 (32bit png file) to get better results/

Hmmm, have you tried copying your photoshop / fireworks layer to the clipboard, and pasting it into your stage, rather than importing an image?
I don't recall any PNG type restrictions.

Found this function the other day in FLash 5. Not bad results but you can only do it from a PNG32 image!!

I'm sure Flash 4 has a "convert to vectors" function somewhere. It isn't perfect, but you can tweak the settings to get a pretty good result.

"Portable Network Graphic" A 24bit file capable of handling alpha channels and complex colours. originally planned to relace gifs on the internet but not widely supported. Though able to handle complicated graphics etc, the file size is tiny!!

Nothing really from other files, just the ability to handle complex information including alphas in small portable file sizes. A bit like PDF's

Smaller than working in Photoshop... No real reason as not to use them.

Whats a png file, what does it do, and why use one?
(okay i know its a optimised graphic file for the web...)

I currently use a Wacom Graphire2 A6 tablet and would strongly reccomend it. If you can afford it, I would go for the A4 version, but if not, the A6 one is great. Good response, nice size and very comfortable to use!
SlaveUnit uses a Wacom tablet, so no complaints there.
True, but in my old 33mhz days I remember seeing some software that could deal with simple stuff like bitmaps of text or circuit diagrams, with sharp edges and no transparency or layers. Relatively simple algorithm I guess, but I was impressed at the time.
Those sites are amazing.. damn I wish my graphics skills were better.. Tyla, you got any comments on Wacom (or in general) tablets? Considering grabbing one with birthday money soon..
