Hi,
I've finally taken the plunge and bought a shiny new HTC Wildfire running Android!

All's going well but I'm having trouble setting up my Freeola email account. Similar to this previous post I can receive but not send email.

I'm using Freeola's SMTP auth outgoing server address. I think the issue is the HTC email app doesn't have an option for 'requires authentication', but I am using the 'login required' option with my Freeola credentials. This all 'verifies' successfully and allows the account to be setup but when I go to send a real email it fails with 'settings incorrect'.

I've tried port 25 and 2025 - just in case.
I'm with VirginMobile who don't have an outgoing server for non ISP customers to use :¬(

Any idea how I can get this to work?

I have a get-around by using Gmail's outgoing server with port 587 and the TLS security option. This works but isn't completely ideal for me as some email clients will see the 'sent on behalf of...' message along with my Gmail address.

Thanks in advance.

Right, I've found your attempts to send and every one is being rejected for the same reason, lack of authentication. This suggests that whichever security method you have told the device to use, isn't correct.

From the few guides I have managed to find knocking around there should be a 'Security type' setting. This is likely to be causing you the issue; what have you entered here and what are the options available for you to enter?

The main options I can find are SSL and TLS. Neither of these should be correct and I wouldn't imagine they would work. Try setting to None if that option exists, although a Password option would be much more likely, if there is one.

All this despite the miss-spelt e-mail address in your message! :)

EDIT: My 2000th post on this forum and it's a support one!

I told them you would say that! :¬)
My 'other forum' posts were making it to Google virtually immediately! Now when I search for solutions all I see is my own rantings! ;¬)

I'll send you the account details.
Thanks.

I'm looking at other Android Mail apps which may help - but it seems a shame as HTC's Mail Widget looks pretty good apart from this.

The trouble with getting a 'Smart Phone' is I haven't really done any work this week as I can't stop playing with it! ...and ordering cases, car chargers, etc. etc.

Firstly, I would advise you ask you phone provider for their outgoing server details.

More seriously, can you let me know what e-mail address (or the very least domain) you are attempting to set up so I can take a gander into the server logs to see if anything pops up there to help you out. Obviously you may not want to post it here, so use the link under Berk if you would prefer.
