Hmm...

As a first-time Nintendo owner, maybe someone can explain the history of this title to me; why is it seen as such a major title, and why are people dashing out to buy Gamecube's to play it?

Don't get me wrong! It *is* a very good game, and I am enjoying playing it, but while it's fun, for me there's certainly nothing particularly outstanding about it.

By that I mean it is definitely a game worth owning, but - and remember, this is just my opinion - it's not a game worth specifically buying a 'cube to play.

For me, there are already better games on Gamecube that people *didn't* rush out and buy the machine to play.

I've been playing it for about 7 and a half hours now (only had it since Saturday when I finally got the cash for it) and I am totally engrossed in it and would have to say that it most definatley IS a classic in every sense of the word, sure some of the boss battles might not be particulary hard to find the method in which to defeat the boss but they are challenging.

I could go on for hours about how great the game is but I won't, but for people who are'nt convinced that it IS a classic then just consider that it has been around just as long as Mario and Zelda as a series and every single game in the Metroid series as with Mario and Zelda has been a classic and this is no exception, as it came through against the odds thanks to two brilliant developers who pooled their resources and have produced a staggering acheivement, lots of people said that you just can't make a 3d Metroid game as the 2d sidescrolling aspect made it magical, well they have now been proved wrong as it retains everything that you'd expect of high calibur from a Metroid game and more, in fact i'd even go as far to say that the game is even revolutionary for a second time round and if you can't see what i mean then you probably need to go back and play Metroids 2d counterparts that started it all.

Also on the subject of Metroid Prime i'm at a tricky part at the mo as when i was trying to beat it i'd just ran out of rockets, maybe Tilta can help me with this 1 :), right, I've saved at the save room where I've activated the whole solar system projection which you can scan each planet and get all the details etc and then I go through all the bits where you encounter your first Metroid and it leaps out at you (first bit in a game thats made me jump in ages) and then you go through the research centre where you apperently have reached the end of it (that area) and it's the place where your in that room that sprials upwards and you have to deactivate three computer consoles to get the Heat visor.

Then i've done the bit where you kill all three Metroids and you scan for a way out, NOW heres the bit where I started to lose my health rapidly and died and had to go back to the aforementioned save point, you open the door and theres this Robot sentry thing stopping you from getting to the door that you have to look upwards to open as you have to kill it to unlock the doors again, I have killed it but like I said I had no rockets at that point and so I suffered heavy damages and was at my last 80 something health and so of course i opened the door and started to back track and I just got savaged by Space Pirates and died.

So what I basically want to know is "how do you kill the robot sentry thing quickly and without losing too much health?" if Tilta or anyone else can help me with this it would be greatly apprecitated as I don't wan't to get to that point again only to get killed and sent beck to that dam save point as it takes about half an hour to get from the save point to the bit as you scan everything along the way and by that time i have about 51% scan which i'm sure I havent missed any scan points up untill then, anyway i've rambled on for long enough now, cheers.

Does anyone else think the in-game clock/timer is a little wrong?

I swear I've been playing for much longer than what it says on the screen

I'll agree with you wookie, I haven't gotten that much into it, and starfox and pokemon silver have ousted it from my 'to play' list.

Bummer.

Been playing for 18 hours 19 minutes (according to the game...) and am now exactly 50% of the way through.

I've beaten Thardus (the stone guy er-no was talking about), and I have the Spider Ball, Boost Ball and Morph Ball bombs, Wave Beam & Ice Beam (both with the Missile Launcher and combo power-ups), have the Varia and Gravity Suits, the Thermal Visor, Space Jump boots and have scanned 64% of the Log Book entries!

I appreciate it's not actually an out-and-out FPS (more of a first-person puzzler with action sequences), but so far it's all been a bit on the easy side. The boss battles are good, but so far I haven't found them especially challenging. The hardest has been the big plant thing (can't remember the name, but you have to hit the 4 big solar dish things and so on...). The Chozo Ghosts and certain stealth pirates can be tricky. Over all though, I've only 'died' about three times, and two of those were while I was getting used to the controls!

A lot of the creatures seem to be there just for nuisance value. So far, it's not as big a game as I thought it would be - I mean in terms of game world size, not how long it takes to complete. It seems sometimes to be unnecessarily dragged out by making you go back and forth covering the same ground.

I don't mean to sound to be too 'down' on the game though. As I said, I *am* enjoying it, but personally I think there have already been better games on the 'cube, and I can't see why people are going particularly nuts over it. It's a very good game, but I wouldn't consider it a classic.

Oh and the constant switching around between the visors is just cool. You panic and stuff when the space pirates are around.

Wicked.

Dude, get furthur into the game.

Once you get the spider ball (the boss to get it) will just make you scream for more.

Seriously good. I had to concentrate and think, and not many games are like that anymore!

Play further into the game and you'll understand. I wasn't sure what people really saw in the game at first, it was good but nothing particuarly amazing.

After a bit of play though, the game really picks up, about 4 hours or something in it really gets amazing.

How far into the game are you?
