I have owned my PS2 for exactly a year today and I have enjoyed every last minute of it. However, I am now told that Nintys will have to wait anoth 6 months (that's half a year) to play on their next gen superconsole.

That means, by the time you get your GameCube, I'll have played all the "big" PS2 titles we're all getting excited about, all the unknown titles we're REALLY getting excited about and probably a load of other ace little gems yet to be announced. Bear in mind MGS2 is confirmed as being released in February, here.

And you'll have... nothing. And when you do get it, you'll have no where near as much. No Zelda, no Mario, a merely "good" Luigi game, less than good WaveRace, half a dozen other titles and of course, Super Monkey Ball which might also be on the PS2 by then.

Undoubtably one of you'll come up with the "I like Nintendo" argument which is fine. However, you play games that don't exist and still might be over a year away (we all know what Zelda releases are like). So, your choice but I can only really see the hardcore Nintys backing up the GameCube in the UK at least. Add to that the oh-so-imminent Christmas and Sony's immense marketing might, I think UK Nintys have a problem.

Pah! That's opinion based!

More incredible games?? There were only 3 at the Japanese launch, and none of these were incredible.

Pikmin?? Eurgh! No thanks!

Wave Race?? Dull and annoying, by the sounds of it.

Rogue Leader?? I prefered Episode 1 as a film, so Starfighter was better. And Racer II will be better than either of them!

Incredible games?? Nah, more like dull ones.

I hardly think so. GT3 was boring as hell, Microsoft Train

AAA titles?

Actually ISS and Silent Hill 2 are crap.

I've been playing GTA3, Airblade, GT3, Zone Of The Enders, Stafighter, Smackdown JBI (lots of fun, even if story mode is poor) and Red Faction.

And by the end of Xmas I'll have Max Payne, SSX Tricky, Devil May Cry, 007 Agent Under Fire, Crash : The Wrath Of Cortex and TIF 2002!!

And you, will have NOTHING.

I couldn't stand Wave Race. I didn't like Shadows of the Empire, apart from the first level. And Mario was good, but Banjo was better.

Goldeneye still remains one of THE multiplayer games, though.

It seems to me that you PS2 fans are a little undecided here. Goatboy, you just said that Nintendo is all same old, same old, and Ant has said that although Nintendo is innovative, innovation isn't good...

hmm...

Oh well, I still prefer GameCube because the titles Goatbiy named as same old, same old, aren't just shameless sequels (like Tomb Raider :P) but are actually using the same basic formula, but adding to it. Rogue Leader allows you to issue orders to other rebel craft or troops, and Shadows of the Empire was nothing like Rogue Leader!!! It was mainly 1st person, with a very few ship flying sections! If you mean Rogue Squadron, then Rogue Leader has better controls, better depth of missions, and the ability to give orders.

Wave Race has been added to with more stunts, more realistic water (in looks and how it behaves), turbo boosts, and shortcuts. Oh and Tsunami waves!

And Luigis Mansion isn't even a platformer! It kind of defies genres, but it has adventure/ puzzle bits so I've heard.

You say it's all same old, same old, because Nintendo are using the same franchises, but the actual games are very different! And what about Pikmin? Or the new style Zelda? Hardly the same...

And the reason I still still prefer Cube is that many of the titles you named I don't like. Call me picky, but in general I find sports games repetitive, and not that exciting. Realistic racers often take themselves too seriously, and end up having too much emphasis on realism over fun. Tomb Raider games... well c'mon they're terrible! And if I want a strategy game I can play Pikmin, or just boot up my PC, which strategy games are much more suited to! The Survival horror??? If you want survival horror GC has all the resi evil franchise coming to it, and for a psychological horror game we have Eternal Darkness. And a third person shooter? We may yet have a Jet Force Gemini sequel, and I'm sure we will have more of those soon, but what PS2 shooters are any good? They all seem to be PC conversions. Half-Life without the mods??? That's half the games greatness gone! Red Faction is supposedly very short, and Max Payne has been out for some time on PC.

So there Goatboy!

;-)

I play PS2 because I like Sony and the experiences I've had with Playstation.
I don't like Nintendo because I felt I was ripped off with the N64. But at least I had one, so I can comment on which I prefer, based on having owned both machine.

I know I bowl about saying "Smash Nintardo", but that's just my usual idiotic humour.
We all have our preferences, and it's a bit silly trying to convince everyone that they're wrong for liking a particular console.

The thing that Sony offer above Nintendo is a variation in the types of games you can play.
Nothing to do with quality of graphics or the usual arguments.
On Playstation, if I want a FPS then I can play one.
If I want a strategy game like "Risk" or "Panzer Commander", I can play one
If I want a sports game, I can play one
If I want a 3rd person explore/shoot type game, I can ...(you seeing my point).

I dont think you get that choice on Nintendo. Yes, wrestling games, but where are the American Football games? Where are the golf games? Where are the basketball games?
What should I play if I want a strategy type game on Nintendo?
Or a 3rd person explore/shoot game?
Or a survival horror game?

This isn't me saying Nintendo suck, this is me saying that I don't feel I am offered the choices in types of games I like with Nintendo.
I prefer PS2 simply because I feel, for me, it offers a wider choice of gaming genres - which expands the possibilities of longevity for me.

With my N64, I had a LOT of games. And of those, I bothered to play Blastcorps, a wrestling game and Goldeneye on Co-Op mode.
And that was basically it.
Which is why I am not going anywhere near the Gamecube, because I got burned when I tried Nintendo, yet I still bring out my PSX games and give them a whirl.
Today, I played Tomb Raider, Silent Hill 2, GTA3, Tekken and Risk.
All different styles of games, and all still cause enjoyment.

Maybe if Nintendo would offer a wider selection of genres, I'd take a look.
But so far, they don't.
Luigi's Mansion..well I had Mario 64 and didn't like that.
Waveracer - Ummm...I had waveracer on N64.
Star Wars - I had Shadows of The Empire.

Just nothing new, no new style or stunning game, just variations on the same old, same old.

Nah, Sony still smash Nintardo wiv stick for me.

Okay here is my opinion of PS2 games. There are a lot of them. There are lots of quite good ones. There are very few which seem incredible.

My opinion on the GC titles I have seen. There aren't huge amounts of them. Most of the games I have seen (well over half) look like very good games, and there are also a lot which just make me feel that I must play them because they look so damn amazing.

Now, You may say, well PS2 has more good games, but who cares? Can you afford EVERY good game on the PS2? I doubt it. Can you afford EVERY good game on GC? I doubt it. But I feel (notice that this is MY opinion) that GC has more in the way of incredible games, and the best GC games look better than the best of PS2, so I want a GC. If I had money to burn I'd get a PS2 and a GC and play a load of the Xbox titles on my PC, or other consoles.

But this reminds me of something in Mean Machines Sega (anyone else remember that?). On the letters page it was just constant anti-Nintendo stuff, but I was neutral as my parents got me and my bro a MegaDrive one Xmas and a Snes the next. When the Saturn vs. PSX thing started (before they were out though) someone wrote in saying that every true gamer would get both systems! How untrue. I didn't get either, and got an N64. About a year or two after I got my N64 my bro got a PSX. And I can safely say that neither him or me play the PSX anymore, but I still play the N64 and so does he if he has mates over and wants me to kick all their buts!

End of rant.

Realism, that's what Nintendo cuts down on and concentrates on the fun factor.
That's why PB had more fun playing Mario then MGS (MGS seemed too serious)
