Right now I'm surprised at how popular it is. The speech is really annoyingly slow, with one of the most infuriating noises ever recorded at the end of each sentence. Plus the first word of the sentence is usually said, for example "Hey" or "Hello", which is just...unnecessary.
The graphics? Great in a lot of places, in others it's merely passable. I really like some bits, especially the bird that captures Aryll at the start, but the far scenery is made out of cardboard.
The jumping kind of annoys me as well. There is no jump button, but he just jumps when he reaches the end of a platform. It removes the skill, but I guess that's not really the point of the game. That's what your going to say, right? Okay, I take that on board, but at one point I jumped off a ledge thinking it was the right place to go, only to find I'd already been here and couldn't get back up to the ledge. Surely this isn't the point either? A manual jump would've let me get onto a ladder to get back up there.
Now, I haven't got very far for two reasons - hardly any time on the game, no space on the memory card. So I can't comment on battles further into it, but the ones I have done have been incredibly easy. To the point of boredom. Even when you have to get a weapon from the opponent, all you do is stand there pressing block and wait for it to hit you. And it even misses a lot of the time.
Basically random musings here, but it seems very simplistic and Mario-ish most of the time. I'm probably the only person who will understand that, but basically it isn't a good thing. And I know most people won't have got this far because the moment they saw it was primarily an anti-Zelda thread they'll have furiously stuffed on their angry hats ready to type out an amazingly flawed and typo-riddled reply on why I'm wrong in under three seconds, and that's fine. If you want to do that, go ahead, but don't expect to get anywhere. It's all subjective, there is no proof, and a lot of people can't even tell the difference between fact and opinion.
Oh, and what's with those guard pigs who have 360 degree vision?
"I don't like the control system"
"You're wrong, you idiot - it's the best game ever and if you can't see that, you're an idiot"
I saw Zelda running on the office GameCube and was less than impressed. Not my cup of tea really.

Logic 3, 4Mb.
Lovely
I'll tell you what, Zelda always starts simplistic and rarely blows you away from the word go.
As you play it, you usually start to get sucked into it, and before you realise... you're hooked!
Ofcourse, you won't get that far without saving! :-P
Free some space on that card of yours!
NONE of those other games are as important as Zelda!

Bwahahahahahahahahaaaaaa. Priceless.
I played WW for the first time this past weekend. Before it was released I looked at the pictures and mumbled "It better move nicely...it looks so basic".
But gawd - it's like warm syrup it's so smooth. The draw distance is superb, and the expressions say it all. When the bird gets clouted by the catapult - you could feel it, and it's expression before it gets hit :o)
*spoiler*
Oh - and the bit where Link gets onto the catapult before forsaken fortress in the barrel and his expression on each countdown...I nearly wet myself.
*spoiler ends*
It's a brillinat attempt to breath life into a stale graphical format. "Let's try render real life..." uhhh. Well - we need about 100 Million more polygons per second than the most powerful machines can render today to even get real life. Then process it in real time? No way we'll see that in the next 5 years.
But an immersive, fun, endearing, environment - has been achieved right here right now. I have yet to play more to give you a gameplay judgement but it promises to be great fun.
I'm off to play some more :o)

Max FACTor makeup :P

The zelda style is puzzle based. Inevitably there are some you struggle with, or it'd be a walkover. But sometimes when you get stuck you can spend ages looking in all the wrong places. It's the downside of an otherwise good style of play.
The game seems to be slowed down by lots of little touches, such as the text conversations, the grapple rope cut scenes, the running around spaced-out levels, but that's part of the game's style too - it's not supposed to be super-fast slick play, it's more of a relaxed kind of affair with that attention to detail.
Not sure about the sailing, just got the item that might make it quicker (to avoid spoilers), so the terrible backtrackingness of metroid may or may not be reflected in zelda's long boat journey.
Odd though. Maybe fairies have softened me up (there's a sentence I didn't expect to see myself typing :^) ), but there doesn't seem to be much to explain what's going on generally (pirate charm not withstanding). I can't say how it'd play for first-time linkers, but I imagine things would be a lot clearer after playing the OoT disk...

Good - I just need a memory card and then I'll make some informed opinions.
> Are you trying to tell me when you see someone in the street you know,
> you just walk up to them and start chatting without saying hello?
No, my point is that a lot more is said in the conversation than "hello", but that's the only sound - why bother at all?

Beauty is fact? Since when?

Surprisingly few - I perfectly understrand why the jumping system is as it is, but it really infuriated me how I couldn't get back up to where I was even though there was a ladder there.

...which aren't at all easy, unless you have a lot of ammo (which is becoming more and more common these days). If you have something like a crimson head, a hunter, even a zombie when you're not expecting it, it can be very hard. There is no guard button on Resident Evil.

Not if he was making no noise whatsoever.

As I said, those were just my thoughts on playing as far as I have, which isn't very far. Maybe my opinion of it will improve, maybe it will get worse. Although it's currently above Mario. :)
More guys fighting you at once. And they get bigger.
