Admitedly i dont know much about the DC and me commenting on it with my lack of knowladge is unfair so I'll go with you on this one, it does make sence because i did enjoy my friends DC alot.

Oops forgot the DC, although it was pretty obvious why that failed to be fair. Quality games it had, enough? Nowhere near.

Well Sony stuck their foot into the gaming industry with the release of the PS.
That cost Nintendo did'nt it....
(N64)
The blame of the failing of a console is that of its own. Wether it be gaming quality or simple marketing, the fault is that of the company. I am not implying that the cube is failing, and can prove that with my, just prdered a few hours ago, GC, but IF it were to fail it wouldnt have anyone else to blame but itself. It was Nintendo's decision to market the game in the fashion that it does (the almost non-existent one), they chose the 'kiddish' image (yes they are good games but the casual gamers, most of the gaming population, wont get to find that out because they wont play games that are too 'childish' for them), IF X-Box are 'stealing' the games (i personally dont see the games they are stealing but never mind) then Nintendo has the money to get its own exclusives, and it has been using it too (Final Fantasy Exclusive, Resident Evil was taken away from Sony etc) and it has its own 'Big' games such as Zelda and Metriod.
The main problem is too little too late. PS2 will always sell because it was released earlier. This early release prompted people to go and buy one, since it was the only 'next Gen' console on the market, many people parted with their money giving Sony a head start with an already huge fanbase. Then followed both the X-Box and the Gamecube. Now those gamers with the money to buy more than one console tend to be working men, these men dont want the 'kiddy' console (i know it has great games hence my rescent purchase of one but im talking image), so they will opt for the X-Box. Many loyalists go out of there way to get a Gamcube. This is why PS2 is ahead (even though its looking a bit rough now) and X-Box and Gamcube (internationally) are pretty much tied. Many gamers can only afford one console, the PS2 got there first. Now the people who can afford more than one either go with X-Box or stay loyal to Nintendo. Many people who could afford more than a PS2 aren't willing to part with there money because they are waiting for the next Gen fo consoles, so that, once again they can be first in line for that 'PS3/X-Box2/GC2'. Its the same reason the PSone destroyed the N64, and also why the SNES and MegaDrive were so close.
Now im not saying the entire sales structure is built around timing, games tend to play a part in it also. The problem is veriety. PS2 is a more dark, action adventure sort of console, very popular gaming genre at the moment. The X-Box is also a kind of dark FPS sort of console, whereas the GC, although full of gameplay veriety, focus's on the 'happier' side of gaming with games like monkey ball, Pikmin etc. The gaming 'trends' are for games like Devil May Cry, Halo etc If only all 3 consoles would vary all there games, yes you get variation on each, but if i show you a few screenshots of a certain game, you can usually tell me what platform its on correct? Its not because you are Uri Geller, its because Each console has adopted a style of gaming. Which is ok in the short term, but trends change, variation would mean the company (be it Sony Nintendo or Microsoft) wouldnt have to worry.
so much for it being short...
But he doesn't need to stick his oar into everything else does he, especcialy at the cost of a company like Nintendo.
Fair point.

I repeat the above.
Why do Microsoft *deserve* a share in the console market? Why?
That's the biggest bunch of crap I've ever seen. Do they deserve a share of the music industry too?
Microsoft are the richest company in the world, and they should stick to what they do. Instead, they just want to make even more money by grabbing away at every other industry. I'm not saying any other company would be different, but Microsoft are doing it now.
