Definitely try to pass before you finish uni.
I started learning before uni, failed once and didn't pick up lessons again until the summer I finished uni. That was okay for me, since I went back for a masters.
However, if you want meaningful employment, there's a very good chance you'll need to drive, or waste hours walking and/or taking busses.
I now have a license but no car, but it's good to at least have one of the two out of the way.
The gap between sets of lessons (before and after uni) wasn't so bad for me. I picked up most of it fairly quickly. Also, for the most part you don't really need a car at uni, everything should be in walking distance, and not having one saves you being the driver on nights out.
But now I want a decent job, the financial burden of getting a car on the road, and hassle of finding that money without a car, is a pain in crossbob. It'd be twice as bad if I needed to pass a test too.
I thought you should all know.
