Yeah, I'm currently considering Manchester and Reading for some sort of AI course, tho' the one at Reading may be AI with Cybernetics or sommit, tho' they dont do any placement or anything. Any ideas on other places that also do that sort of course, or any info in general? Cheers...
I almost went straight into a head-on collision with a Ford Focus!!
On my way down the hill, I slowed for the bend, braking round the corner, when suddenly, I saw the car, and put my foot on the brake pedal.
I didn't slam it down; I only pressed it firmly enough so that I could stop fairly promptly, and that I'd not go on rolling down the hill. It usually works so well...
This time, however, something went very wrong. As I did it, there was a loud screech, the steering bizzarely locked over towards the off-side, and I was sliding down this road - straight for this shiny, clean Focus; head-on. I couldn't have missed it. I was anticipating the smash! The breaks just didn't work....
Thankfully, however, I did somehow manage to slow down in-time, before the car. And then, I pulled up the handbrake, reversed back, gave-way, and didn't even have the guts to look at the other driver.
It didn't have shake me up, though. Even when I knackered my near-side front-wheel on that roadworks post, it didn't even come along half as frightening as this. I was shaking for the rest of the mile-and-a-half drive home! :S
Perhaps I should've eased up on the break, when I started to skid?
Had I been able to think straight, I may've done so... At the time, I was far to frightened to even consider letting go.
I would've also applied to handbrake earlier, but I'm sure my instructor'd told me before that it can sometimes make things worse or something...
I'm more than 'glad' I got through it un-harmed, as did the other driver and our vehicles (God knows what he thought of me...). I'm gonna have to get my brakes checked now. It could've just been the leaves on the surface, but it's really made me aware. Plus, people have always told me to get my "Tracking" checked since I hit the wheel - yet, I have absolutely no idea what the heck that is...?
After flying off my bike in a very similar situation at the very same place nearly a year ago, I've another possible 'theory' as to what did happen. Due to my 'easy-jumping' nature, I probably swerved inwards suddenly a little bit as soon as I caught glimpse of the other car. As I then braked, I turned back out again to straighten-up and miss the fence - and this was probably when my near-side wheels got awkwardly caught in that horrible "gutter" (just like my bike did). And so, because of the surface and all that, the wheels couldn't grip back onto the normal road-surface too well, and it all went slippy-slidey.
At least it wasn't a white van-driver dead-ahead of me, though - he wouldn't stop if you lay down in the road infront of him!
I also find this quite `conspicuous´ on the day when I decide to put a "Motorist's First Aid Kit" in the boot of my car....
:o

Yup that was me. You thinking of taking it up?
It's 3 years, or 4 if you're doing a year in industry like I hope to (all depends on results).
