Sounds like it to me and maybe by the end of the year.

Taken from IGN.com

"May 29, 2003 - In Take-Two Interactive's conference call with analysts early this week the company said that its exclusivity contract with Sony Computer Entertainment America has been amended and, additionally, executives strongly hinted that a version of Grand Theft Auto may come to Xbox.
During the Q&A section of the conference call, Take-Two's Jeffrey Lapin stated that an unannounced SKU would appear on Xbox in the fourth quarter of the company's fiscal year (which, for Rockstar, is November to January). Lapin didn't confirm it was Grand Theft Auto, but he implied, according to a source who listened in on the call, that it was a Grand Theft Auto title. If rumor proves true, then a previously published version of the game, i.e. Grand Theft Auto III or Grand Theft Auto Vice City, is in the works for Xbox.

According to the conference transcript, the relevant question asked in the call was: "Is GTA for Xbox coming, and when it is coming?" Lapin's answer was: "We said that there will be an Xbox SKU from Rockstar in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2004 [Nov. to Jan.], but we're not going to comment on what it is at this point."

It is assumed by analysts that the Xbox title Lapin refers to isn't a version of Mafia or Max Payne 2, two potential games that have already been announced or hinted at.

SCEA's contract with Rockstar originally stated that all Grand Theft Auto titles would be exclusive to PlayStation 2 (with the exception of the PC) from 2001 to year's end 2004. Apparently, SCEA and Rockstar have re-negotiated the contract to permit the game to appear on other consoles. Rockstar is currently working on the next Grand Theft Auto title, due for year's end in 2004, which will, as we understand it, complete the original exclusivity contract with SCEA. (Unless that too has been renegotiated.)

A second question was asked: "Will the Sony deal allow you to ship a non-PS2 GTA product even if it's not the most current?" The answer was: "We're not going to comment on terms of the at deal although by the next conference call we'll be able to give some more color."

Take-Two is most likely to announce the full, confirmed news in its next analyst call this August. And you know we'll have more on that when it comes."

Enter the Matrix looked amazing but it ended up average. Driver 3 should be good but after hyping games like Metroid Prime and then being disappointed I am choosing to keep a closed lid on them until nearer the time.

If this is true then the PS2 has Devil May Cry and absolutley nothing else. Metal Gear 3 is currently PS2 exclusive but it will come to the Xbox. To be honest I don't think its down to Microsoft its down to Rockstar wanting to bring it to the Xbox. The customisable sound tracks and Hard Drive can be used to great effect with a game like GTA 3. Just imagine the possibilities of downloading all the new stuff they put on for LIVE. New cars, weapons, smaller maps and any bugs that appear. This is all something which wouldn't be feesable on the GameCube to the extent which Rockstar are probably hoping. Just imagine if this is released in time for Christmas on the Xbox! With all the other winter releases and early 2004 releases (Halo 2, Doom 3, Half Life 2, Project Gotham 2 etc) it would be a perfect time to get an Xbox.

Exactly. Its crud and yet it sells.

Which brings me to wonder why Nintendo aren't considered with this, or why haven't they actively gone for it. They know it sells.

What the hell does PS2 have now?

Final Fantasy, GTA and Metal Gear have all gone multi-format. GTA (if not appearing on Xbox) is on PC anyway......

Ye well it can now shift a set of Xbox consoles :) Its what all my friends originally got PS2's for and it is a fact that the GTA series shifts consoles. Its not rubbish its different. No it shouldn't sell consoles but it does and for that I will welcome it with open arms.

That's about the only game I would get a ps2 for.

Please let an xbox version be true: good controller, online possibility, multiplayer possibility and better graphics.

Ye but who wants that? I just would like a chance to play through GTA 3 again with improvements. The Bug for the later mission for D-ICE can be fixed so that the gangs actually turn up. On top of that shops and a more interactive world would be welcomed with open arms.

Sounds like it could be. If they announce it soon I will cancel my order for a PS2 at currys. Max Payne 2 and Mafia have already been announced for the Xbox so it isn't them. The only other title they would really stay hush hush on is a GTA title so it could be possible. I hope its a modified GTA 3 which will allow players to enter shops and interact more. On top of that it will most likely include customisable sound tracks. I have 100% GTA 3 on the PS2 but I would still buy it for the Xbox if it coems out. Fingers crossed!
