"May 29, 2003 - In Take-Two Interactive's conference call with analysts early this week the company said that its exclusivity contract with Sony Computer Entertainment America has been amended and, additionally, executives strongly hinted that a version of Grand Theft Auto may come to Xbox.
During the Q&A section of the conference call, Take-Two's Jeffrey Lapin stated that an unannounced SKU would appear on Xbox in the fourth quarter of the company's fiscal year (which, for Rockstar, is November to January). Lapin didn't confirm it was Grand Theft Auto, but he implied, according to a source who listened in on the call, that it was a Grand Theft Auto title. If rumor proves true, then a previously published version of the game, i.e. Grand Theft Auto III or Grand Theft Auto Vice City, is in the works for Xbox.
According to the conference transcript, the relevant question asked in the call was: "Is GTA for Xbox coming, and when it is coming?" Lapin's answer was: "We said that there will be an Xbox SKU from Rockstar in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2004 [Nov. to Jan.], but we're not going to comment on what it is at this point."
It is assumed by analysts that the Xbox title Lapin refers to isn't a version of Mafia or Max Payne 2, two potential games that have already been announced or hinted at.
SCEA's contract with Rockstar originally stated that all Grand Theft Auto titles would be exclusive to PlayStation 2 (with the exception of the PC) from 2001 to year's end 2004. Apparently, SCEA and Rockstar have re-negotiated the contract to permit the game to appear on other consoles. Rockstar is currently working on the next Grand Theft Auto title, due for year's end in 2004, which will, as we understand it, complete the original exclusivity contract with SCEA. (Unless that too has been renegotiated.)
A second question was asked: "Will the Sony deal allow you to ship a non-PS2 GTA product even if it's not the most current?" The answer was: "We're not going to comment on terms of the at deal although by the next conference call we'll be able to give some more color."
Take-Two is most likely to announce the full, confirmed news in its next analyst call this August. And you know we'll have more on that when it comes."
Ah, might as well.
Halo does absoloutly nothing new, just does it in a very accomplished way. Its dull. There is absoloutely no excitment, as you get an effective 'save' every 5 minutes, the combat has an oddly sedated feel to it, and wondering through the same corridors again and again (bar the larger outdoors areas) does get just a bit tedius. Even when the flood come, you only get a tinge of fear. I just had absoloutely not attachment to the thing. And no I don't have a 5.1 sourround set up. I think a game should be immersive for what it is, not for what you put into it. Although I accept it may be better with that st up in place.
Metroid on the other hand, while not perhaps as 'stunning' as Halos outdoor environments, appeals to me because it doesn't try. Its immersive, because it makes you the only person there. It brings a classic 2-D exploration game into the 3D world *perfectly*. In that it accomplishes more than Halo ever did in terms of evolution of a genre (which is different to Halo, in its emphasis on exploration). It looks great (as does Halo), and the throw away detail is incredible. Every single section looks different, from the crumbling walls in each different Chozo tunnel to the expanses of Phendrana. Unlike some games about... It has no loading times, and manages to keep a huge game world vibrant and alive with an absoloutely incredible array of creatures. While the combat is perhaps less of a challeng than Halo, and therefore less 'exciting' in terms of big bangs and laser things, its still perfectly done. I accept that the bugs earlier on are pi*s easy, but later on in the Phazon Mines etc, the hidden depth of Samus's tools are brought out - the varying weaponry, the dodges you can do. Etc etc. I could go on ad nauseum........... but I won't. And it sets your pulse pounding (occasionaly, but more so on Hard mode) because you feel unsafe - because you aren't saved every 5 minutes! RAR!
Woo. I never do that, except when I do. Hehe. Anyhoo, I know you think Halo is the best thing ever etc etc. I just much prefer Metroid.
And the musics better too. Especially Phendrana.
:P
Halo is one of the best games I have ever played. It's anything but boring and I can't even think of a reason why you think that. 14 times isn't ridiculous for a game I enjoy so much. I have completed it on every difficulty in both single and multiplayer modes and I am on my 14th time through at the moment :)
They are totally different games and thats why I said Halo wins hands down as a shooting game. Halo doesn't pretend to be anything other than an excellent shooter. Its not very original and the in-door areas are too repetitive (although it doesn't really bother me). I enjoy Halo for what it is however with Metroid I keep changing my mind about what it is trying to achieve.
On top of that I don't think I will play through it again.
> With Halo though I am on my 14th time through :)
A) Do it on Hard mode. Its even more exciting. Despite whatever you say.
B) 14 times? Thats just absurd.
:P again.
Halo is dull -dully-dull dull, with boring bits on top.
Metroid Prime is perhaps more 'sedate', but far more immersive, vibrant and to be honest I think you all smell and should go away and have MP hooked up to your heads.
So there.
:P
I wasn't hyped about it anyway and I wasn't even going to bother getting it because from the videos I saw it looked pretty boring. But I got it 2nd hand, unfortunately though, I was right about it being boring. Walk around, scan this, shoot that, roll there and repeat until boring.......
:(
I can't help it, I have played it quite a long time but still I aren't all that impressed. I hyped it far too much and its come back and slapped my in the face.
At this rate Microsoft will be well on the way to taking on Sony and possibly even passing them in the next generation of consoles.
>after hyping games like Metroid Prime and then
> being disappointed
I smacka yo face.
