I don't know anyone who is offended by the use of gay as an insult to something. Actual gays would understand, and probably use it themselves. It's just become ingrained into society.
Like things are "cool". An example, Linkin Park, to some are cool. But then to their record company, Warner Bros, they are a hot property. Wow. Hot and cool at the same time.

I use the 'gay' word as a general way of showing that I don't like something.
HOWEVER, if I wanted to offend someone about their sexuality (assuming I knew they would take offence), I'd call them homo-sexual, and be done with it.
