OK.. got meself a spanking new pc and looking to start up my PC games collection.

Where the hell do I begin?

Dont mind the genre - anything except adventure games where you have to build up your mantra or cast spells or any of that crap.

I shall listen, think, then buy.

Its not only vehicles you know, theres also mortars, gun turrets etc and sometimes hand to hand combat is needed to secure checkpoints :P

-------> GRAND THEFT AUTO Vice City <-------
The graphical differences between Vice City and GTA III are minor, but the breath of freedom is tangible - the game starts off with the lead character involved in a cocaine deal for Christ's sake! You can use screwdrivers as weapons. You can take a chainsaw onto a golf course and kill OAPs! You can go on a rampage in a shopping mall and you can even drop a helicopter onto the heads of innocent prostitutes who are talking to police officers. It's like, not only do we get the joke, but so do the people who would spurn our tax-money in wasted debate...

Well, I was just thinking that a lot of Battlefield was large, generally open areas, with lots of vehicles blowing the hell out of each other. Isn't Vietnam the complete opposite to this? What with the sneaking through the jungle and silently hoping there aren't 40 vietnamese guerrillas behind that next bush?

Road to Rome is a good expansion, but very limited. Not much additions, but whats there is good. The huge hilly terrains of Italy are by far some of the best maps in the game, and you get to play around with some ace new vehicles.

Also, Battlefield: Vietnam to me looks crap, the same game but with fewer vehicles and maps. Although I am just saying this because you can already get a free downloadable mod which takes place during the Vietnam war, and it's one mod I prefer over the highly acclaimed Desert Combat.

Anyway, for recommendations I'd say:

Battlefield 1942 (because it's the best fun I've had with a multiplayer game, very addicitve)

Mafia (like GTA, but better in my opinion, it really needs a sequel)

Vietcong (one of the best tactical shooters I've played, and with some of the best A.I. I've seen in a game for a long while)

Medieval: Total War (If it's strategy games you want, look no futhur than this, it's huge and extremely addicitve)

Warcraft 3 (Not as hard as Medieval, but just as fun)

Max Payne (because it's better than the matrix game, and you can download tons of additions for it online)

Jedi Outcast (purley for the lightsabre action, and it rocks in multiplayer)

That's all I have to recommend for now, but they'll give you a good start in building up a nice PC games collection.
