Hello chaps,

I've been using Region X for a while to play Region 4 (Australia, PAL) and Region 1 (USA/Canada, NTSC) discs.

PAL plays fine (Region 2 or 4) but my region 1 discs (NTSC) look rubbish.

I've got a fairly new TV (Ferguson, 28" 4:3, don't know the model number) but I don't think that the playback problem is what I would call and NTSC incompatibility issue.
I believe that NTSC on a non-NTSC tv caused black and white pictures.

I'm getting a low-resolution, over-colourful picture that isn't anywhere near as good as any of the PAL discs (regardless of region).

I've used two different scart inputs and also just the yellow composite input and there is no signal type option on my TV that I can see (other than video/s-video).

I'm using the lead supplied with the console (Red, White, Yellow via the scart adaptor).

So, is anyone clever enough to work out if it is in fact my TV that isn't NTSC compatible or is it something more in depth?

Help!!!

Don't think it's the same one but I'll have a look.

KV28LS35(S) is the one I'm looking at.

You do realise that NTSC doesn't look as good as PAL, and will always give a slightly fuzzy picture due to the higher refresh rate. American's wouldn't notice much difference, but as we are used to our far superior PAL standard, we have problems adjusting to the lower quality NTSC.

Although, the problems you are suffering are more extreme than what should normally be expected, trying the set-up on a different TV is definately worth trying before forking out loads of dosh just to fix that problem.

I've been mulling it over for a while now.

Looks GORGEOUS, our Sony Trinitron 20" in the bedroom is on its last legs (still good picture though) and I'm looking for the perfect excuse to get that damned 28" Ferguson out of the living room now!

Seen the 28" w/s Wega for £650 ish at unbeatable.co.uk - it's £799 in currys.

I just want my PS2 games/DVD's to look as good as they should. Especially after this whole bloomin' NTSC fiasco.

You've now almost certainly committed me to getting one now Wookiee!!! Although I suspect I may have to wait until the new year.....

I'm guessing that the NTSC pics on this baby have no problems whatsoever?

Sony Wega 28" Widescreen?

Very nice - there are two in my house! My own one in my room (older model) and one downstairs in the living room(newer model with integrated digital decoder) which is rented.

Can't go wrong, matey. A decision you definitely will not regret!

Out of curiosity, I've just tried on of my NTSC discs - I'd not tried one on my PS2 since I got Region X - and it plays just fine.

I only have a cheap (£5) SCART lead that I bought from Game a few years ago, for my PSone.

So it's doubtful that it's due to Region X, PS2 or cable. Must be the TV... time to break out the credit card?!
