SR claims that the Eye Toy is unique. However it does seem remarkably similar the GameBoy Camera released a few years ago. Sorry. I just had to say something about that.

They could turn it into a game.

The trouble is they already did 24/7 on the PS2 a couple of years back... they tried to adapt it for a regular webcam but it was useless. I doubt they will release a second version :-(

Yeah, I played that 24/7 game Darwock. It could easily convert to the PS2 with the aid of the Eyetoy.

It CAN record video, but that's not really what it is.

it's not so much a camera, as an 'eye' for your PS2. It allows the PS2 to see movement. So like I said below you can take a game like Samba de Amigo and do away with the need for infra-red maracas... just wave your hands in the right area and the PS2 registers it.

There's obviously no need to actually have your pic on the screen, other than for calibration/positioning purposes. Once games developers realise this the potential is enormous. Anyone ever played Police 24/7 in the arcade? Same thing... but it detected motion when you broke infra-red beams.

Yup, it looks great, more of an activity than a game, mind.

What does the eye toy actually do? Does it take pictures?

The EyeToy is great. It IS innovative for the console world.

Just plug it in - Get a few beers and mates = A laugh.

I can't believe that even the idiotic PS.2-fans are all ranting-and-raving over this thing that will, according to them, "revolutionise the way we play games, in the future"! And it's kind of "kiddy", if you ask me - something they are ALWAYS critisising Nintendo and the GameCube over!

And it's not even like this thing is "new" or "innovative", either...
You've been able to do this kind of thing on PCs - using either a digital camera or web-cam - for YEARS, now!

If you gave me the time, I could find THREE different examples of this type of thing that my sister has recieved in Birthday and Christmas presents, over the years!

I suppose you could say the GameBoy Camera is similar... But, really, it's still quite different. Still, I expect to see a "PSP Camera" sometime after the console's release.

Exactly what I was going to say, putting yourself in a game with loads of Nintendo characters and having loads of fun.

They so better use the idea for the next Animal Crossing or actually turn Stage Debut into an actual game :O!

EyeToy does indeed rock. Well, specifically, B-Monkey.

Oh yes.
