I really can't believe how good the Gamecube is!

Does anyone know how may games Miyamoto made over the N64's 5-Year lifespan? I think it was 3: Mario, Zelda 1 and Zelda 2... and to think that on the Gamecube he's making 4 games within a year, two of which are new, and the other two which HAVE to be good, because history won't see it any other way, is amazing! It must be sooooo easy to develop for... I know he's had a good head start, but really, it's mad.

I've been reading up on the Gamecubes's Specs and I like what I see. A main pro for the Gamecube in my opinion seems to be the fact that a lot of the tasks and on board features can be performed by the hardware, where as with the PS2 these actions have to be done through the software, taking valuable processing power off the CPU and GPU. (I talk to Bonus lots... :D)

Developers also say that Nintendo's reserved polygon count estimate was too low and that the previous figures of 6-12 million were more like 20.

The GC will also use S3's 6-to-1 texture compression idea, bascially meaning that the textures needed in games can be reduced in size to a sixth of the original size with no appreciable hit on the hardware.

IBM got the contract to make the processor chips for the Gamecube...IBM's copper chips run faster than Intel's aluminum Pentium chips at the same clock speed, they also feature low power consumption and run much cooler than their aluminum counterparts. The X-Box has an Intel processor with aluminium chips, at least i'm pretty sure it does, but I don't know about the PS2... either way, the GC is fast enough!

But leaving specs there for now... well talk about err... developers...

Who isn't on board would be an easier question than who is! I mean Kojima wants a crack, Square need a Nintendo contract to make FFXI work on-line for profit, Enix and loads of other developers from Japan have ties with Nintendo ala the Gameboy Advance. Developing games is VERY expensive nowadays, so multi-platform games are what companies will make... and to think that Nintendo will have a fair amount of the decent PS2 developers on board and their own franchises spanning from Retro and Rare to (The) Shigsy (Team) and Silicon Knights I don't think they're worrying too much... oh, and one other thing: PokÈmon!

Kids will go mad for it, and as soon as the PokÈmon GC game is out, which I estimate at Christmas 2002, Gamecubes will literally FLY off the shelves! In fact, they probably won't even make it on them!

I started this topic for all of us to keep a running account of the Gamecube until we want to stop or until it dies down, which won't be for ages. Everything right now is PS2, PS2, PS2, but as soon as Gamecube hits America we'll see some action!

Some of the tracks are similar to the N64's version but with various routes through the courses. Some of the characters however are from 1080 Snowboarding on the N64 though, which is quite a groovy touch. When you play the game though, it seems like a different game, and it's BRILLIANT!

Well the E3 demos were slightly shoddy unfinished versions of the games.

Wave Race, however, will most likely be a better looking, more playable version of the N64 one with new courses and options and a few more tricks and secrets too.

I have seen the E3 Demo in Action of Wave race: Blue Storm and it looks exactly like the N64 levels and races just beefed up speed and graphics?

I've played on a Gamecube a couple times now, and I can tell you that it really is GOOOOOOOOD! I've only played Wave Race and Luigi's Manshion but that's enough to make me want one. If you ever get the chance in a shop play Wave Race, DO IT! You will be blown back by how well it plays and by how good it looks! It's the N64 game but with more characters on track at the same time {8} and with graphics to die for. The controller works so well with it too. At first I thought the controller was quite odd, because you have 2 shoulder buttons on the right hand side and only one on the left hand side. This feels awquard the first time you use the pad, but you soon get use to it, and it feels like a dream.

I just can't wait now to play games like Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Rogue Squadron 2, Pikmin, Zelda..... etc....
on it!

So much thought has gone into the Gamecube that hasn't gone into the PS2. For one there are original games comming out for it e.g. Pikmin, right from the word go. There are fun games comming out for it! They have bothered to make a new controller which is REALLY good, instead of rehashing the same old thing like Sony did! Oooooo I wanna Gamecube NOW!

That's far more games than the 64 had :). Maybe that'll encourage more people to buy the machine on release?

The Gamecube does look good, and I think that it WILL BE good, but I won't really decide that until I can play it.
