I really can't believe how good the Gamecube is!

Does anyone know how may games Miyamoto made over the N64's 5-Year lifespan? I think it was 3: Mario, Zelda 1 and Zelda 2... and to think that on the Gamecube he's making 4 games within a year, two of which are new, and the other two which HAVE to be good, because history won't see it any other way, is amazing! It must be sooooo easy to develop for... I know he's had a good head start, but really, it's mad.

I've been reading up on the Gamecubes's Specs and I like what I see. A main pro for the Gamecube in my opinion seems to be the fact that a lot of the tasks and on board features can be performed by the hardware, where as with the PS2 these actions have to be done through the software, taking valuable processing power off the CPU and GPU. (I talk to Bonus lots... :D)

Developers also say that Nintendo's reserved polygon count estimate was too low and that the previous figures of 6-12 million were more like 20.

The GC will also use S3's 6-to-1 texture compression idea, bascially meaning that the textures needed in games can be reduced in size to a sixth of the original size with no appreciable hit on the hardware.

IBM got the contract to make the processor chips for the Gamecube...IBM's copper chips run faster than Intel's aluminum Pentium chips at the same clock speed, they also feature low power consumption and run much cooler than their aluminum counterparts. The X-Box has an Intel processor with aluminium chips, at least i'm pretty sure it does, but I don't know about the PS2... either way, the GC is fast enough!

But leaving specs there for now... well talk about err... developers...

Who isn't on board would be an easier question than who is! I mean Kojima wants a crack, Square need a Nintendo contract to make FFXI work on-line for profit, Enix and loads of other developers from Japan have ties with Nintendo ala the Gameboy Advance. Developing games is VERY expensive nowadays, so multi-platform games are what companies will make... and to think that Nintendo will have a fair amount of the decent PS2 developers on board and their own franchises spanning from Retro and Rare to (The) Shigsy (Team) and Silicon Knights I don't think they're worrying too much... oh, and one other thing: PokÈmon!

Kids will go mad for it, and as soon as the PokÈmon GC game is out, which I estimate at Christmas 2002, Gamecubes will literally FLY off the shelves! In fact, they probably won't even make it on them!

I started this topic for all of us to keep a running account of the Gamecube until we want to stop or until it dies down, which won't be for ages. Everything right now is PS2, PS2, PS2, but as soon as Gamecube hits America we'll see some action!

Yeah, developers can now use a special device (sorry can't remember what it is called) that can tell them how much of the PS2's capacity the game has used up. From what I read, GT3 wasn't even close to using up the capacity.

The PS2 is really coming into it's prime now, and it still hasn't used all of it's power! You thought GT3 was amazing graphically, imagine a couple of years time!

But Sony did the greatest over play ever - the PS2. Yet to deliver anything promised and represented through those awful "The Third Place" adverts. Interesting side note: Sony changed the meaning of the phrase "Third Place" from its common usuage (somewhere people go to relax that isn't work or home), which is how they originally intended to use it - to a whole new and stupid meaning.

Bad things about the GameCube: Nintendo have totally messed up the US and European launches so far. Europe hasn't even got a date and US retailers are still to find out how many consoles they'll get come launch day.

The latter point leads to as interesting question - how can Amazon and Toy-R-Us (Amazon run Toy-R-Us's internet division) claim to have sold out of their GameCube stock in 4 minutes if no one knows how many they'll get? *COUGH* PR STUNT *COUGH* Oh, and look, they also claim to have sold out, yet they're for sale again on 18/18/2001. Idiots, and they're also only selling them in stupid bundles with subscriptions to magazines.

They seem to have got the advertising right this time, but still not the logistics. Most retailers are refusing to take pre-orders as they simply don't know what to expect come Nov 18th - and rightly they don't want to have pre-orders with no consoles to fill

Isn't there a danger that overhyping it will mean disappointment when you finally get one? I suppose that's outweighed by the fact that hyping the machine will sell more units to the general public.

Sony already know how to play the public, look at their latest Wolfman ad, it's great and eye catching. Hopefully Nintendo can come out with something equally spectacular.
