Can anyone recommend a good book on PHP? I find stuff easier to understand when reading from a book.

Well, no really, but pretty damn near. I doubt there's anything that you're doing that would require anything other than PHP. Hell, even Google uses it!

I'll just echo Turbo and my thoughts on perl.

USE PHP

Basically it is a much easier language to learn, it is faster then perl and there is more support for it.
