Square didn't like the cart size of the snes or something and now Nintendo and Square can't bear each other (???)
Square say that they've no intention of working along side Nintendo because near all of the Final Fantasy fans are PS2 owners anyway and they seem to get along well with Sony.
But what exactly happened with Nintendo?

The Snes ones had midi quality music and sound, and relatively low res 2D graphics.
They were probably a bit smaller than FF7 too.
Final Fantasy moved on from its predecessors by becoming far more cinematic in graphics and sound effects.
This took up much more memory.
Too much to fit on a cartrige.
As for the Nintendo disks, I don't think Square will have much problem squeezing the adventure into a couple of them.
The Gamecube has slightly more advanced compression abilities than the PS2 closing the gap a tiny bit.
I'd say that it would be no more than 2 mini dvds for every full PS2 DVD.
Both www.tendobox.com and major magazines have notified of a forthcoming announcement from Square on the GC.
Like Turbo said, there's no way that Nintendo will get exclusive rights to the Final Fantasy Series but we might get it as well as the PS2.
For the Nintendo owners that would as good as Capcoms announcement, only this time it wouldn't be bad news for PS2 owners.
EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY!! :-)

Well, Square have already announced loads of early FF games for the Wonderswan colour... they have, in fact, got about a dozen titles in production!

It also said relations between Nintendo and Square are distant so I wouldn't get your hopes up, God knows how they'll fit on a GC disc anyway.
FF11 is already in development for the PS2 and FF10 has sold 2,363,028 copies in Japan alone, If you want something to compare it to GT3 (which has been out forver over there) has sold 1,632,260 so it's done pretty damn well for itself and I CAN'T WAIT for the UK release.
They should give Nintendo that Kingdom hearts with dumbo, donald, goofy and all that, hahahahaha
So we wait for one of the parties to back down.
Given that Nintendo are still turning in huge profits, and Square are struggling a little after blowing so much cash on a movie, it's more likely to be Square that meet Nintendo's demands.
Should be the gaming motto really, despite all the sequels and everything, gaming is a pretty liquid business and it's difficult to make predictions so far ahead. Even the change in management of a company may mean that new decisions are made and new bonds linked with once rival companies, or old partners revived.

Alegedly.
Apparently, FFXI and FFonline are going to be multi-format, with Sony andd Nintendo owners being able to play FFonline against each other, along with PC dudes.
One thing's for certain: Square will NOT ditch the PS2, as Nintendo can't possibly pay them enough money to recoup the losses they'd make.

In the UK, certainly, as FF was only released in the UK because Sony let them. It leaks of FFX already emerging at PS2 launch, I should think quite a lot of people bought it.
Last time I heard, FF11 is coming to the

I read something like that in either Nintendo Official Mag or N64/NGC mag (can't remember which).
Anyway, Square have constantly said that they have been keen to work with Nintendo ever since Spaceworld 2000. So hopefully they will!

I did say that they hated the cart format because they couldn't get their lovely FMV sequencing on there! But also remember, that they DIDN'T need the space of a CD for a Final Fantasy game... up till then they had always used carts that had less memory than the N64's carts (ie they'd never used any format bigger than the size of a SNES cart, and didn't really know why anyone would need the space available on a cd!)
The only reason the game was bigger than the size of an N64 cart is because, after all the stuff that I described happened, Square started making the game for the PSX and used the capacity ot the full. Had none of the "you can't make games on our console" rubbish gone on, then Square probably would have made the game on the N64, and it would have turned out very different.
But, they

Nintendo seemed to be in a bit of a strop though

There was a rumour that they did the same to Sega... and look what happened with ninty and Sega eh!
