Taken from CE

"Developing games is an expensive task on the GameCube.
The CESA (computer Entertainment Supplier's Association), has recently conducted an analysis of the Japanese games market and brought up a rather interesting fact.

Games development on the GameCube is currently the most expensive of all the formats with an average cost per game of ¥72Million (€525,000).

The cheapest console to develop for was the PSOne, with an average cost of ¥14Million (€102,000).

This data is based on the analysis of results obtained from 43 Japanese software producers."

Thing is though, me knowing about any of this will make no difference to how expensive costs are for developing games.

I'll just stick to playing games and let the retards at Nintendo take in all this BS.

This entire thread is complete bo**ocks, for two reasons:

1. The actual cost of developing a next-generation game is more like double the cost stated by that study of developing for the Gamecube. A recent article in Edge mentioned that EA regard any proposed budget of less than $1m (put forward by developers hoping to get signed) as suspiciously low, either due to low production values and/or unrealistic developers. $500K to develop a videogame is peanuts, to be quite frank.

2. WTF does the platform being developed for have to do with the development costs? 99% of developers costs go into salaries - do Nintendo somehow demand in their developer licenses that the company must employ a minimum of 5 people just to sit around doing nothing? The cost of a software project is entirely defined by its size and nature. If anything, developing for the Gamecube should be cheaper in Japan than for the Xbox and PS2 - the architecture is easier to work with than the notoriously difficult PS2, and there isn't a huge pool of PC programmers in Japan to slide over to the Xbox.

Given that, at the rate their going, the titles could soon dry up, and Nintendo may have to go the same path as Sega, I think it matters quite a bit.

Does it have to happen? It may already be too late for Nintendo to save their image.

What can you do about it though?
Nintendo are rubbish a marketing. They haven't got a clue. If you want to go and ake Gosen's job, you're welcome to try, but, to be honest, yor shouting down your own throat here.
No one at Nintendo can see why they're going wrong. Just accept that you can't do anything about it and wait for them to sort themselves out. It's got to happen sooner or later.

But the people employed by Nintendo do, and the company as a wholehas a right not to be purposefully perceived in a bad light because people want to shine more light on Sony.

I mean look at what's being said here.

"Nintendo charge 72million yen for development, a Sony game will cost only a fifth as much"

That's a very powerful, as well as a very false message.

You can't do anything about it.
It's got enough bad press. This won't really make any difference.
It's not like developers didn't already know this, and it's not like any of us will stop supporting Nintendo because of 'high development costs'
