I know what I'm like.
I know the opinion of most people here about me.
I know I go on and on about politics, injustices, the stupidity of mankind etc etc.

I get a few responses, but usually it's "stop moaning".
I put a post about Asset Forfeiture today and had 1 response.
I stick on about "WWF is Gay" and BOOM! Replies aplenty.

Something is wrong here.
I know this is a forum mainly about computing, but you'd think that more than 4-5 people would care about things that matter.
I enjoy video-games, but at the end of the day, they don't matter.
So I continue to post about illegal aid to 3rd world countries, dubious moral business ethics, the descent of mankind into a morass of stupidity etc and get labelled "A whinger" "like my grandad" and other amusing names.

Is it me?
Why does nobody else seem to be concerned or interested about life-changing events?
It's not because most people here are kids, I was like I am now when I was 12.
I dont get it.

Why do I continue to try and highlight things I find wrong with this planet, only to find zero responses, but a dumb topic designed to amuse and/or infuriate people gets responses faster than I can refresh my screen?

Why do I continually bang on and on and on about politics etc?
"Why can't you just shut-up" is the usual response.
Fair enough, each to their own.
I just find it incredibly frustrating that Gordon Brown is debating whether to allow police the power to monitor your bank accounts, but the main topic of conversation seems to be "Spammers should be banned".

*bangs head on desk over and over and over*

Sometimes someone will read something I've put and maybe, hopefully, sparked something of within them.
But mainly, I get the feeling that I stand there on my soapbox whilst people cross the street to avoid me.

Ah well, I'll die screaming but I know, in my heart, that I did what I could to make a difference.
I'm off to talk about movies now.

Would you include Courtney Love and Hole in this rather bizarrely monikered category?

Can't remember them that clearly but yeah they are pretty bleak. Unreliable men are a theme as I recall.

Bloody feminists.

Dorothy Parker, Alannis Morisette, Natalie Imbruglugliaglia...they all just need a wash, a nice frock and they'll meet a decent bloke.

I don't know...

That one just stuck in my mind for some reason. I like a lot of her verse but it's mainly her spontaneous wit that I admire. DP is very quoteable. I've never got round to reading her short stories/novels unfortunately, I get the feeling they could be quite depressing.

Razors pain you,
Rivers are damp,
Acids stain you,
Drugs cause cramps.

Guns aren't lawful,
Nooses give,
Gas smells awful,
Might as well live.

Forgive any misquotes, my memory's not often spot on.

Yeah the women is a genius. Have you a read a poem called "Resume" by her? Its all about the different methods of suicide and they all fail you? Also there's another poem about a "perfect red rose" and why is it that men always buy you a perfect red rose as opposed to a sports car or something useful. Fantastic.

I love that quote. It's even more impressive when you consider that Dorothy Parker came up with it when challened to work the word 'horticulture' in the conversation. If she was around today she'd make Chris Morris seem gentle and dim-witted by comparison.

"Preaching to the disinterested" is that really how you feel? Speaking from personal experience I think its quite difficult to gauge the impact you make on others. Especially when talking about politics, world issues and all the subjects that most people either feel totally unqualified to deal with or alienated from.
I don't think you can take it as written that people are "disinterested" in your posts. I think the responses here speak volumes. People are reading them. Many feel a bit intellectually nuerotic i.e "What could I possibly contribuite to such an intellectual and articulate posting". So they don't post back. Doesn't mean it hasn't planted a seed in their brain.
There is also another maxim that says its not information but inspiration people need. We all have informataion coming out of our eyeballs but you need something inspiring to make you act. This is the tricky bit. How do you inspire people to act? What can they do to change a situation?
As for why are people totally obsessed with trivia? simple its easy. It doesn't require any emotional or intellectual energy. Its not threatening and usually fun. This doesn't justify the worlds obsession with celebrity ego w***ing but may go someway to explaining it.
I think post 11th September people are finally beginning to take on board the gravitas of the world political situation. The state of Geri's six pack may have been interesting when the world seemed a calm place but now that things are potentially going to go balistic people's minds are focusing.
We all as individuals need to take responsibility for ourselves and our communities. This means thinking in terms bigger than our living room. Some people take this responsibiltiy more seriously than others. You are one of them but you are not responsible for others. Give them the information, it may even inspire some of them but in the words of Dorothy Parker
"You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink,
You can take a w***e to culture but you can't make her think"
I'll get chucked out the sisterhood for that last comment but it makes a point.
I'm off for a G and T, a scan of Hello and an evening in front of how to decorate my prole hole or whatever is on the box.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
