Say it ain't so, say SR haven't taken to pop-up ads.
Puh-lease say it ain't true.

You can do *something* to their head to make them go away, though!

If someone grabs you by the lapels, you can't just click a button on their head to make them go away.

Just like any other advert, then - why make a special case of it?

I didn't say that personally - I've read that it's a general trend on the web. Which would suggest that your experience in this particular case is the exception rather than the rule.
Having said that, I'm sure that at £199 your PS2's would be flying off the virtual shelves with any form of advert! :-)

Not true - I dismiss all popup adverts, whether I have the product or not. I respond better to "Excuse me, would you like..." than I do to "

Sorry, I have to disagree. The advert at the top of my screen at the moment, "PlayStation 2 - free gift - free DVD & CD remote" - that is informing me of something I might like.
A popup (which I still haven't seen, by the way...) is grabbing me by the lapels and trying to force me.
It's like comparing a shop assistant asking politely, "Can I help you, sir?" to a market trader bellowing "tomatoes - 99p a kilo".

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Not having a go at SR though, over this pop up thing. I've not even seen them yet.

The ads at the top of the pages and elsewhere

Apparently, revenue from banner ads etc. is in decline across the web;

So it seems obvious that people are getting incredibly peed off with

The whole point of pop-ups is to inform people of an offer they might want. You say they aren't working but the number of PS2s we've sold so far leads us to believe otherwise. You only dismiss it because you have no interest in it, cos you've got a PS2. We're informing people, not forcing them to look at something.
