Nintendo are a brilliant games company. Being a father of 3 I love nothing more than actually playing games with my three kids. The N64 had four ports on the front which allowed us all to sit and laugh together and interact in something kids of today's generation enjoy. It has also given me a new hobby and my kids aren't complaining that I intend to buy a Gamecube when it is released.

Games such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. are so instantly playable, that for me and my kids, we can do something together, without their being a massove gulf between our talents, and it prompts my kids to be competitive, but to also appreciate the talents and efforts of others. Some other games such as Mario and Zelda also teach them basic problem solvong skills and helps them develop mentally in a way they wouldn't recieve in an educational institution.

The most important factor about Nintendo is that there are so many games which appear to the uneducated to be cartoony, and therefore aimed at kids, I do not see it this way. I find some of these games very challenging, but I do not have to worry about my kids being subject to brutal violence against what appear to be human beings. My kids are at an impressionable age, and I do not want them to think that hurting other people is acceptable. What they see in a cartoon world they are able to distinguish from real life and know that some things are wrong.

Behind the bright characters and landscapes of the Nintendo universe lies a real challenge, a true test of ability and something which can be enjoyed by people of all ages, I just hope some console rivalries don't make people miss out on a truely social event that is Nintendo gaming.

... hahaha, sorry......

Im 16 too and i feel that if you are mature enough to play the games and dont take them too seriously i think you should be able to play them, of course i dont recommend a 11 year old to play them but us (dare i say it) young adults should be able to.

I tend to either praise Ninty with the odd comparison to Sony or just talk about games in general and ignore console wars like SFA my new post wheres anti-sony in there?

I prefer talking about aspects of games or areas that specifies in certain areas rather than make an anti-sony or nintendo post aka Turbonutter (he writes it good mind).

I've always admired nintendo for keeping their games fun and from a kids point of view I guess the colourful worlds and fantasy type characters will greatly appeal to offer hours of entertainment :)

Congratulations, Mariochu.

Long live the art of recommending one machine without slating the opposition.

Stick around - you're not the only person of 30+ around here (though I don't have kids), and we need more people like you!

I'm trying to look at both your points and reply to them so sorry if it is so slow.

I'm glad at the response I am getting, I didn't know quite how well a 30-something dad would be taken to in these forums.

True Bonus, that people your age, I'm guessing your about 20, will prefer to play games where it is only your own opinions which may be affected by the game. I have some games for my N64 which I haven't told my kids about, because I don't want them playing them, Perfect Dark is one of them, but I do enjoy playing this game myself, so I can definately see where you are coming from.

And as for your opinion Grix, I agree one hundred percent, Nintendo games do seem to have a magic to them, and thank you for the compliment.

And why?

Because as soon as he posts, someone pops in and shouts at him.

Please excuse him, this is not what the forums are about.

I can respect that is your opinion, but taking a piece from your post, you said that you don't want to see your kids playing games which show violence between people. That is a type of game I may like to play, and I find more of them on Sony's Playstation 2. Games such as Silent Hill, definately shouldn't be played by kids, games such as Grand Theft Auto and even Metal Gear Solid come under this also, I find these games immensly entertaining, but I can see your point about you having to think about your kids, maybe that will be a concern for me also.

Thanks for the brilliant discussion, this forum has been lacking this for a while now.
