Games such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. are so instantly playable, that for me and my kids, we can do something together, without their being a massove gulf between our talents, and it prompts my kids to be competitive, but to also appreciate the talents and efforts of others. Some other games such as Mario and Zelda also teach them basic problem solvong skills and helps them develop mentally in a way they wouldn't recieve in an educational institution.
The most important factor about Nintendo is that there are so many games which appear to the uneducated to be cartoony, and therefore aimed at kids, I do not see it this way. I find some of these games very challenging, but I do not have to worry about my kids being subject to brutal violence against what appear to be human beings. My kids are at an impressionable age, and I do not want them to think that hurting other people is acceptable. What they see in a cartoon world they are able to distinguish from real life and know that some things are wrong.
Behind the bright characters and landscapes of the Nintendo universe lies a real challenge, a true test of ability and something which can be enjoyed by people of all ages, I just hope some console rivalries don't make people miss out on a truely social event that is Nintendo gaming.
Baby-sitting little cousin.
He's 5...
" So you know how to play the game? "
" Yes Sheepy... you think I'm stupid? "
:-D
I struggle with it :-D
Partly because it's not true (there's a balance of more "mature games" such as Resident Evil and Perfect Dark too)
And secondly because they're using these great games you mentioned as an insult.
You ought to win a game for this topic, and if you do, providing you can put up with seriously immature South Park style swearing and toilet humour in order to play a great game, I recommend Conkers Bad Fur Day (if you've not go it already.)
But like Grix said, DON'T let your kids near it :-D
I've been a 'Ninty' for some time now, and when my kids were born I was looking forward to playing games with them. They're still too young to play, Malibu is 2, and Georgia only 5 months, but they still love to watch the games. The bright colours and the chirpy tunes amuse them. Malibu likes to hold a pad, and pretend that she's playing. She also loves to watch the video's of forthcoming GAMECUBE games that I have on my PC.
Kids are great to play games with, as they haven't had the years of practice, and can easily be beaten.
I fear the day that my kids can beat me at Mario Kart!
Also, Mariochu, you're right about there being plenty of 'more mature' titles coming to the 'CUBE. Games like Eternal Darkness, Metroid, and the Resident Evil series. If these are any good I'll get these too, but certainly keep them away from the kids!
Long, long time ago, when shorts were short, women were in the kitchen and I was a nipper, my mates used to get dead annoyed as he dad would complete all his games before him. And he had a Master System. See kids, Sega wrecks famlies, we're better off without them producing consoles.
> Sorry if you were ofended, i cant wait for the game, it should be
> one of the most scariest, gorriest game ever. Should be alot of late
> night gaming sessions when i get silent hill 2.
No, no, i wasnt offended. Dont worry about it.
My dad doesn't have time to learn how to use the N64.
the ONLY game he will play is the origional mario on the NES.
Instead i have to play my younger brother who sometimes ends up srying if i beat him (at the game)
I wish my dad could find the time to be interested in games and stuff im interested in.
Good topic as well.
I see a bright and GAD-ful/FAD-ful future for you on the forums.
Bonus is odd but ignore him smile comment on what you think he is trying to say and move on. His posts are good its his attempt of an unbiased view point that confuses me.
