The forums, I think it's plain to see, have used up much of their energy. We can no longer truly discuss things as we once did.

Perhaps this is because of the amount of times we have actually discussed these things... perhaps it's due to the amount of people with simular opinions, no real unbiased objections to anything.

Perhaps it's to do with arguements that seem pointless, because no one is going to agree, because everyone is so stubborn.

Or perhaps it's to do with the society of the forums, and the way our family has expanded and changed.

No doubt, the next person who will read this after me will be someone who has not been around here as much as some of us. This isn't a bad thing that more people are coming into the forums, but it is a bad thing that we see less and less of the older foggers.

And because of this, because we're getting bored with the same argument over and over, it's time for a change.

Can a perfect society exist? Where race, sex, opinion or view makes no difference to the amount of respect a person is given? Only equality can lead to a perfect society, and these forums are certainly not equal.

Turn your head. A notable wrote this topic. This is because he has been voted to be above and beyond all other posters. If a society was composed entirely of notables, then perhaps it would work. But not like this. I doubt even all the notable will ever read this.

You are a just arrived today. In a few weeks, if you write 300 posts and include 10,000 words or so, you will become an apparent regular. The content of your posts is ignored. Perhaps this is right, but then, perhaps your status should be ignored entirely. Experience is a must, yes... but perhaps that should be learnt through time, not through pre-written rules. I'm also not saying that we should all be encouraging newbies, I think they should go through all they need to be able to write their opinions clearly and wisely. The Fog Prime also has improved... but only because less people are posting. People who have been here a while no longer post so many topics.

Staff? Of course they should be put above us. They run this site, and our respect is demanded, and rightfully so. That's the only real good that has come from this.

So what am I really saying? Abolish notables? Abolish the regular system altogether and go back to being on the same level?

I know we all see people differently, without the newbie/regular/notable status anyway... it's only the people I enjoy the company of, not the whole race of regulars.

So perhaps I am saying that. Perhaps the direction we should take is not forwards, but backwards. Back tracking to where it all went wrong. A new start, perhaps?

This of course is just my opinion, and I see no more of it. All I want now is yours.

I've just become a regular, but while I was a newbie, people treated me with respect, especially Grix and RBS.
So I reckon, because of that, the colour of your name doesn't really matter, although I do think the notable status being voted for is right, because that shows, accurately, what people think of other posters.

I think it is the way issues have become so over done that now a lot of the opiions by people arent put into many of the convos now as they have doen it too many times. (:)

Like I said Grix, it was a simple and childish idea, it wouldn't work very well anyways. Maybe it could be that when someone posts a comment about someone, it can b reviewed by someone at SR the following morning and if it is not insulting, then it can be posted on there profile.

Seifer, it doesn't matter if it's good or bad, that's the whole princible of forums such as these. It's the fact that you can suggest it, and other people can comment on it.

I think perhaps unfortunatly it would be used for evil, and not good. :0) People only writing bad things... if ajusted slightly, and I'm unsure how, it could work very well.

I agree. There is no reason why anyone should be singled out. Taglines are a good idea, well done rakuga. But status bars?! You can't even earn Notable status... I have been here longer than most, not all, but most, yet I wasn't voted for once in the last election, nor has my profile been on a news@upwire letter. Should I complain? I think not. It doesn't bother me... if it, my profile, were to appear on upwire, what good would it bring... none. The joy would be over within a couple of hours and someone else who posts more or writes longer posts may get annoyed.

Having a status on forums isn't a good idea. If a Notable says something people reply, if a newbie pours his blood sweat and tears into a topic... people only need to see the unfamiliar name in red or brown to be content in dismissing it and moving on.

I say get rid of the status and let people make what they will of others. Half the notables don't post anymore!

Some of the forums are just waiting for the GC and the X-Box release in the UK, when the get released, all of the convos will start up about comparing the consoles with proper reasoned arguments without making rash descisions about what the consoles have to offer.

I treat every one with the same amount of respect wherever they are a JAT or a notable, but the notables have earned the respect of the forum users and this means that more people will take notice of what has been written by them because they know that what they talk about will be argued over for a long time. (Just like this topic will I should imagine)

Maybe there should be a new kind of respect'o'meter, if there are people who enjoy the company of people on the forums then they can add something to there respect meter, about why they are such a good poster, if people dislike this person then they can add something to there hatred meter. That's just a simple and childish idea, which wont work very well, but it might work.....
