Well there was in industry around VR and it still was a gaming fad.

I'm sure it was a marketable product just not one that lasted very long, a fad.
A fishing rod prephiral is something that may have been cool in some peoples eyes but not enough to call a fad. Neither would be virtual reality or games played off the pulse.
It doesn't saying anything about it having to be 'big' just short lived.

Still, I wouldn't want to pay much for a gimmic that only lasts one game. Besides, I can't really afford gaming nowdays.
THe last game I bought was a second hand Gauntlet. :-)
