It's all a fad. I can't envision myself playing something like that for very long at all, much like the eyetoy except as I said that can be used with other games.
Seems a bit of a trivial use of the licence though.

Sure like cel-shading and light guns everyone does it and then when the popularity dies only a few do it... but they do carry on.
We still get Time Crisis and House of the Dead despite the other 100 plus light gun games dissapearing into nothing...
It starts as a Fad and then becomes an actual genre of game.
