It should auto detect it when you go to register....that's what it did with me at least.

Talk me through what exactly you have done regarding setting it up and the thing about Live and KOTOR.

Wait up a bit, what type of network card do you have?

by clicking start, run, winipcfg and reading his current IP address off of that. Maybe once he has managed to connect once then he won't have problems.

That complicates things then, besides if Alastair has a dynamic IP how on earth can he manually enter it ?

Ali, when you say you had Live through KOTOR before you had the starter kit what do you mean? Did you actually manage to connect to Live through KOTOR and get a proper connection?

Did you register or anything then?

I would consider starting from scratch.

Oh and made sure you have a crossover cable between PC and Xbox?

For ADSL the vast majority of providers are dynamic IP providers. Only a few like Freeola ADSL use static IPs.

I thought that the IP was specific to the connection with broadband ? most providers do a fixed IP so it won't be different everytime he connects unless BT do that, which I'm pretty sure they don't. I know when I networked this PC that a check of the IP on both gave the same for each - the one of the connection.

I've got BT Broadband - just connected my Xbox to me router - it auto detected settings, and I have no problems connecting.

As for the IP - it is unique to each user online - therefore, if you disconnect and recconect you'll have a different IP.

Two people (unless sharing an internet connection) can not be online with the same IP. So giving mine, for example, would be useless.

Sorry, but this is about the limit of anything I can suggest, when I had ICS it just worked.

I 'reckon' the problem is actually somewhere in the PC settings, you shouldn't normally have to manually configure the Xbox settings.

All I can do is post this link which again, you've probablly already been to http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/start/connect/sharedpc /troubleshooting.htm

I really hate it when things like this happen with PC stuff because I end up changing so many settings and stuff that I just loose track of what I have and haven't tried.

Good luck, hopefully someone else can help better - I know adrian uses/used ICS and he's like a networking god type person - I'd post this in the PC Forum as well 'cause they've helped me out a few times with Live problems.
