just half an hour ago the north tower of the world trade centre in New York City was hit by a small passenger airplane then the south tower was hit by a larger private jet hit the south tower...the first jet is said to have been hijacked.......

Each tower holds 1,000 people.
Of course, it was rush hour, so we don't know how many people were just walking nearby, or driving down the road outside when it happened.
I still feel 50,000 is a bit steep though...

I heard that there may have been upto 50,000 people in and around the tower at the time?

Each tower holds around 1,000 people.
The passenger plane that crashed into the tower could hold up to 300, don't know how many were in it though.
Not being funny, but if you're more than a few stories up, throwing yourself out of the tower would kil you anyway.
It must be horrible to have to make that decision.

Whatever reaction the US have, I have to say it's probably justified.

All ive heard is that thousands work there and they were throwing themselves out of the building in attempt to save themselves!
