Have you noticed that it's only the 'Sonyphiles' and the 'Nintys' that are having the "Our console is better than yours" argument?

Whereas XBoxy's (or whatever the hell we're called) are just sitting back and waiting for our new box of tricks to be released, not a peep from any of us.

People who are interested in the XBox, myself and FM and a few others round here, are waiting quietly, without need for arguments and discrepencies.

I wonder why this is?

(Cue some extremly witty comment from Wookiee along the lines of "But thats becuase EVERYONE knows the Xbox is rubbish" :-))

Maybe it's because even though you are Bill Gates' henchman you know sub-conciously that the X-Box is doomed. That it'll fail miserably. So you don't bother argueing because if you do you'll look like a complete fool when the X-Box DOES fail.

I think you'll find that although there are more stupid Nintys in the forum than PS2 owners, the Nintendo forum is generally safe ground to tread.

Resi got given a hard time but see some of his posts and you'll see why.

Most of the people in there will argue that the Gamecube is better than the PS2 and sometimes make one or two mistakes but generally they only start calling people scum if they do what everyone hates

"The PS2 will be better than the Gamecube because Nintendo make kiddie games" or something along those lines (you get Ninty equivilents in your own forum)
This sparks off a riot.

If you look into the Nintendo forum now, you'll only find one or two console wars topics by a couple of JATs while the rest is more sensible.

And about what you said about Nintys being generally immature... thats not quite fair.
Partly because some Sonyphiles are just as bad, partly because if Sony had an official magazine as stupid and childish as NOM then there would be just as many idiots!

Basically, people saw Mario 64's cute graphics and the magazine aimed themselves at kids.

I hope that they grow up by the Gamecubes launch.

I don't bother with people who dis the Xbox because they simply don't know what they're talking about. The Xbox is looking very promicing and the games appeal to me more than all the GC games put together. I can't wait for the Xbox to arrive and if you found out a bit more about the console, im sure you would too.

"Grix and Sniper are rarely here any more to argue about anything!"

Some of us have jobs, you know.

Well, used to have jobs. No excuse now, I think.

No really, I DO have better things to do. I only pop in when I see my name mentioned.

Rightio, off I go.

While it is a sterotypical image, you only have to read through the Nintendo forum to realise that *most* Nintendo fans are young and immature (clearly not all of them, or we wouldn't be having this conversation...).

We occasionally get the same type of post from younger PS2 owners on the PS2 forum, but we try to get them out of it quickly - I myself have slaughtered a couple of them who have posted trash in the Nintendo forum. But it goes on day after day in the Nintendo forum, and to me the average intelligence there makes the WWF forum look like a Rocket Science meeting! Basically, Nintendo *do* have a 'young' image, and that forum does nothing to help them shake it.

Basically, while I can understand people like yourself getting annoyed at the stereotype, it's your fellow Nintendo fans you should be talking to; if you (generic 'you', not you specifically) behave like kids, you'll be perceived as kids.

Regarding sequels, I don't deny that PS2 has more than its fair share - but if they're sequels to good games, I see no problem. Things like Army Men, though, I'd willingly laugh at with you!

Yes, that may be true - but as I said, *image* counts for a lot. There are some excellent 'cutesy' games on both PlayStation formats, but they are broken up well with other types of game. If you look at Nintendo games, relatively few have any real diversity, and most are presented in a 'cute' fashion. And 'cute' is associated with kids.

The N64 was dominated by 'cute' racers, platformers, and Pokemon. Nintendo had no direct competition in the 64-bit market and still couldn't tie it up. More diverse games appeared, but too late in its life to save the machine. It wasn't a failure, and it wasn't a success... it was was just 'there'.

I'm not saying Gamecube will suffer this in the same way that N64 did - indeed, I truly hope that it doesn't, but historically Nintendo have created this image for themselves, and it *could* continue to harm them.

There appears to be a wider variety coming for GC, but we won't know whether they've successfully shaken the image until the machine is on sale worldwide.

All I'm saying here is that both PS2 and Xbox appear to be aiming 100% at a more adult market, and it's the adults who have the money. If there's enough money to buy both, then there's not an issue - but for those that must choose one out of the three, Nintendo *may* lose out based on image alone, regardless of the quality of the software.

This is my opinion, and it's no more or less valid than anyone else's - but it is at least based on known general trends and not purely on what my neighbours have done!

> When you really grow out of console

Again... I'm not *arguing* anything. I am happy with my PS2, and am almost certainly getting a Gamecube. At the end of the day, I don't care which is better, because I'll have both. The reason I post any replies in these topics is because I can't stand people (again *not* you) who - like FM said - put rubbish in their posts in an attempt to justify a system is better than PS2 and/or to try and make themselves sound more 'right' than someone else. Especially when all the research, facts and figures (which anyone can look up!) say otherwise.

These are the FACTS as I know them:

Xbox is technically superior to PS2 and Gamecube.
Gamecube has a faster processor than PS2.
PS2 pushes more polys than Gamecube.

Now forget all that, because it's all irrelevant.

All three machines will sell according to the *image* they project and the games available for them. It doesn't matter which is 'superior'.

Nintendo fans always say Rare make better games, Sony fans name a number of companies. It's irrelevant. People like different things. Each platform will all have their own exclusive titles, and they will all have their own versions of other titles. There are millions of videogamers all over the world, and every one of them likes something slightly different to the next. No-one is right, and no-one is wrong - we're just different.

And there will be more than enough people buying each system for all three of them to survive.

> Grix and Sniper don't bother anymore. They simply
> don't care. They have better things to do.

Grix and Sniper are rarely here any more to argue abuot anything! Meka still sticks his oar in when provoked enough to do so, as does FM. ssxpro is staunchly pro-PS2, but I think he's just too peed off with it all to bother.

As am I - except in the circumstances already described. Why do I bother? Because there are always two sides to an 'argument', and if enough people read enough anti-Sony Ninty rantings, they *may* begin to believe it.

For as long as I post on these forums, I will continue to balance the scales when I deem it necessary. I don't generally leap to the defence of other machines as I admit I know nowhere near as much about what's going on with them as I do with PS2; there are other people here more more than capable of doing that, and far better than I could.
