Microsoft, by way of announcing its Xbox strategy for Christmas in the UK, has revealed today that there will be no immediate axe taken to the retail price of the console before 2004.
Expectations were high following Nintendo's slashing of GameCube to £79.99 that Microsoft would follow with a price cut of its own prior to Christmas, especially since Nintendo's machine has begun to outsell the Xbox for the first time in months (2 to 1).
However, Microsoft has instead chosen to place its yuletide hopes in a bundle that features the console, Halo and Midtown Madness 3 and a voucher for two months' subscription to Xbox Live. This Xbox bundle will retail for £139.99, on shelves from today.
Industry watchers will be following Sony's, Nintendo's and Microsoft's Christmas fortunes in the UK closely, in particular the clash between GameCube and Xbox.
While Sony is in an unassailable position and likely to do very well with EyeToy this Christmas, Nintendo is looking stronger than it has for some time, sales likely to be driven further by the arrival of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! on November 14. Let the battle commence.
Hmmmm exciting.
But that was before EA methinks.
Freedom Fighters and SSX Tricky are two excellent EA games, or at least published.
SSX Tricky is still played on my Cube, its anything but short lived, and SSX3 shall rock. Amped 2 looks good, as does 10802, but I don't think the Snowboarding genre is really a system seller now, is it?
Cube for me has a far greater release list than XBox, in particular that the fact that Counterstrike and GTA3/VC have been around for aaaaggges, and aybody seriously interested has played them to death before. Still, they will sell. PGR2 is hardly as well known as Mario Kart is it.
But once again today, I bought a Cube game the XBox just can't beat. VIIIIIIIIIIIEEEETIFUL JOE!
Genius.
My opinion anyway.
:-D
Nope, I don't like FIFA games, I feel that they're wasting the James Bond license, and I know they're using Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter to milk it out of the public, but some of their games can be excellent.
Madden NFL 2004 is great. Most of you won't like it because I don't know many people on SR that really like NFl, as I do, but if you did, you'd appreciate this game. SSX Tricky was something special, as well. It was a little short lived, and highly eccentric, yes, but a great game all the same. NBA Street 2 and Def Jam Vendetta (both EA BIG, of course) were also good games.
EA aren't amazing, but they make a few great games.
Weapons and blood is what it needs for the sequel. Just WWE standard stuff.
Tricky was amazing, and with SSX 3 improving on it so much, I don't see why it shouldn't be one of the games of the year.
