The X-box is coming, will it do well? No one knows but one thing is for sure it’ll make the gaming industry bigger. But it will also pull gamers away from Sony and Nintendo fans and to them but who will be affected the most?

Why Sony will!

Sony’s Playstation 2 is the closest thing on the market to the X-box. Both are seen as a big boys toy (Teenagers) and so if Microsoft appeal to the teenagers and Sony’s main market is teenagers then Sony may lose a few. I know a few Sony fans that are moving to the X-box as they think it looks “cool”.

Look at them Microsoft has based itself around the Playstation who are they more like Sony or Nintendo? Sony fans that want to try something new may think a good choice will be the X-box.

Why Nintendo will!
Japan have already rejected the X-box claiming they think it is too big, the UK and the rest of Europe has had a mix response but it is the USA which is most keen on Microsoft’s new box of tricks. So why will this effect Nintendo?

Well Nintendo sells best in America and if Americans take to Microsoft’s x-box then Nintendo could well suffer.

Why Microsoft will!

Because no one wants their console, the games are not impressive and well no one wants their console! So yeah it might affect Nintendo and Sony but it doesn’t do much and well it’ll be Microsoft who will suffer for making a console no one wants.

Bring on the criticism!

What do you use, sticks or padding? Why am I even asking, what a waste of a post. Bats obviously. Vampire ones presumably. Oh dear.

That was the PS that sold because of hype, the PS2 sold because of games quality which came later on the PS but was there when PS2 was launched. What does AAA stand for?

Oh and what is that number that is the link to UK Chatforums, it seems to go down as I post, though I think I'm imagining it. What's your number? (red line above bit about joining).

hmmmm... another point.

Do not think that MS are not serious about the gaming side of xbox. They have bought out many small developers, including Bugie (creators of Halo), and have wooed Oddworld inhabitants over.

The whole design of xbox was made exactly how xbox developers wanted it. Even the xbox design was made for gamers... the large size of the console is to hide soundproofing... lots of gamers are annoyed at the sound of discs loading in the PS2 and DC.

Finally, Xbox have employed a great team to lead xbox development... headed by J allard- who has been in the industry longer than Sony!

A few things:

XBOX cannot play DVDs out of the box. Instead u can get a pack that includes DVD driver, Remote and errrr... some other stuff. However, because the price of the pack, or console has not been announced then do not critise this point.

XBOX has MANY games that could be AAA quality. In addition these span almost every genre. To give a couple of examples: Project Gotham (sequal to MSR, for which MS have bought the licences for many cars, like ferraris!). Munche's Oddesey- to think lodas of PS2 games were ranting about how great this game would be, and then it was changed to xbox only, and now it's not so good!. The fact is that the quality of games on the Xbox is no lower, or higher (for the moment) than the PS2. There will be some crackers (Halo), there will be some failures... but this is the same on all consoles.

FINALLY, Xbox cannot fail... really. Reason: $500 million marketting budget. In the same way the PS2 sold more due to hype than game quality (let's face it, it's a fact!), MS aim to do the same. And will almost certainly succeed in the west. If they can gain a big share in America (as they will do), I have no doubt that omre japanese publishers will consider MS as a future format to jump on.

The name might put people off. You can get a good DVD player for about £100 or £150, something like that, or Gangstar could probably fix you up for 20 squids. Of course, with the price of squid that'll probably cost you in the long run and you'd have to keep them fresh.

Many excellent sounding PC games are to be made for the X-Box first and then the PC, those sneaky Microsoft must be pulling in favours. Or sending hoodlums round. There are still a fair few resisting, so that's nice to know us PC owners wont be too neglected. Anyway is shouldn't take long to port between PC and X-Box since they're very similar in technology and the only thing would be to take more advantage of PC processing power etc.

I'd say more like £250 by the GC release but the possibly less by teh X-box, get a DVD gamecube that will be about £225 translated from Japan.

You know for a minute there I was actually tempted to get a PS2. Are they really gonna go down to £200. I might get one as well as a gamecube mainly for the DVD player.
