Disappointing thing about the game for me because Mario Kart has always been about the multiplayer mode for me and the maps let down what is a good game.
It seems all over complex. Battle modes with your mates is what Mario Kart is all about. I want to get mates round for a good old blast but as you admit yourself, it takes hours to get used to the gameplay.
Something that takes hours to get used too means it has unintuitive (awkward) controls. My mates are going to play it for 5 minutes and say it's stupid to control. I can't blame them.
Thant's my main reasoning behind my opinion.
On what grounds do you hate MK:DD?
I tell you what's quite funny. I've played MK:DD and it's poo.

I would also like to add:
People who argue over which console is better: RETARDS
There are great points to each console. Sometimes people get caught up in the travesty that is the UK GameCube sales figures (which are completely unfair), and needlessly put-down other consoles. When you think about it, the Playstation 2 has some excellent games yet too often it's disregarded as the 'rubbish mainstream one' on these forums.
Lets just enjoy the games, rather than attempt to "prove" to each other why we're all right and we all have the best taste. As a mutliconsole owner, I have my preferences, but I prefer to enjoy gaming as a whole.

Some of them may not be amazing games, but they are great.
Then you get the multiformat games, such as fifa, medal of honor, SSX 3 all of which have online capabilities that neither Xbox or gamecube have, oh wait there, the gamecube isn’t even online.
Tomorrow I will be ordering an xbox, with that and a ps2 I will have quite a good choice of games now and in the future.
Just enjoy the games.

Oh well that's settled it then... sorry we ever doubted you! Funny how only one of my all time favourite PS2 games made it into your list... I don't even rate SSX, Pro Evo or NBA street at all! Which presumably means you're unaware of all the other quality titles available on the PS2. But never mind, you've rested your case....
I respect your opinion, mine is the other way, I have more PS2 games than gamecube games and get more enjoyment from the PS2.
But with that being said I like to play games, couldn't really give a stuff what console a game is on, although not owning an XBox means I miss out on the XBox exclusive games.
People on here spend to much times fighting over what console is better or why games suck without actually enjoying games and picking out the good points from games...
