Is everyone ready for this coming battle? I know they are not being released together, but they will undoubtably be compared against one another when they do arrive. Does anyone have an opinion now?

Also, can we stem the tide of merchandising which is about to engulf us linked to these films???

I heard about John Cleese being in it from my sister, but I didn't know who he played. So, like the dutiful poster I am, I went and found out. He plays someone called Nearly Headless Nick, whatever that is. And, on the subject, Rik Mayall plays something called Peeves and Verne Troyer aka Mini-Me from Austin Powers, plays a goblin called Griphook. Sounds like fun. But onto the far more interesting prospect of LOTR....Who is Sean Bean playing? Could be Gimli, Aragon or Boromir, as far as I can guess. Im sure Vottenator can tell me.

I'm looking forward to Harry Potter, and I haven't even read the book yet! The trailer looked impressive and its got a great cast (didn't know John Cleese was in it though).

The trailer for LOTR looks equally good, and it's got an ever better cast (and someone called Sean Bean is in it).

For all of you that hasn't read Harry Potter - read it!

I find it annoying if people automatically decide it to be a 'childish' book, when it is totally and utterly the opposite. I've re-read each book 4 times each! They're that good, and I'm 15. My Mum, Dad, Sister, Aunty and Uncle - along with ALL of my cousins have read Harry Potter - and they all loved it. It is a film for ALL ages. PLEASE DO NOT judge a book by its cover - any of you, it's plain stupid. Don't be fooled by the press stating the facts that Harry Potter has "grabbed the hearts" of millions of yopung children - because I'm led to believ that for a long time Harry Potter was in the top-three of the best-selling charts for ADULTS!!

I can't wait for the film because I believe it will be highly enjoyable.

Yes, I've also read ALL of the Lord Of The Rings books. And I must say that they were also great fun...but not quite as good and addictive as Harry Potter was. Yet again, I'm looking forward to the film. To see why, head over to Goatboy's post in this very forum.

Actually, I think both films should be good. I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but look at some of the actors involved. Richard Harris, Alan Rickman and John Cleese are a few. Then you've got LOTR, which has some of the great actors too. Christopher Lee, Sir Ian McKellen and Sean Bean. Both should prove to be amazing films. Will they eclipse films like JP and Episode I is earning power though?

The Harry Potter film will probably make some kids go and see The Fellowship of the Ring who may not have gone to see it otherwise. Their interest in all things fantasy may be reignited to the point where they want that little bit more - and get something which (hopefully) will be very special indeed.

Harry Potter will be a massive film, possibly even record breaking in this country. It's success will be short lived though. The Fellowship in the Ring is going to take some serious dosh!

Has anyone seen the first trailer for FOTR? All the others have been for the trilogy in general but there is one now which is for the first film alone. Although it's not always best to judge a film by it's trailer it does look to have got everything right so far.

I think we might be in for a very enjoyable 165 minutes (roughly).
