Anyone seen the first pics of the new Zelda game yet?

No?

Go seek them out, I won't tell you where to look, you can make a game out of it or something.

Okay, have you looked now?

Good.

What did you think?

Looks very, very cartoony indeed, doesn't it?

How much can change in a year hey!

Remember last years Zelda video, featuring Link and Ganondorf fighting. It looked nothing like this at all!

One thought has entered my head, and I'll let you in on it, it's a bit messy, but that's the best you'll get!

Remember SNES Zelda, which featured two worlds, which you could cross between?

Remember Ocarina of Time, in which you could go to two different worlds as adult Link and young Link?

Remember Majora's Mask, in which you could take on different forms by wearing different masks?

Now what if the new Zelda game allows Link to play as an adult, as seen at last years Spaceworld, but also in this cartoon form that is being shown now?

Zelda games always seem to have something major like this, and the vast differnces between the graphical styles would be an extraordinary contrast, and a very odd gameplay experience!

But hey, maybe I'm wrong, maybe this game has taken on the role of an 'interactive cartoon'. I can't wait to see some videos to see what it looks like in-game, as the screenshots released so far aren't fo great quality, and you can't judge too much.

At the moment GAMECUBE Zelda is scheduled for an Xmas 2002 release in Japan, so we might see it in the summer of 2003!

Hopefully it will be worth the wait, and there's plenty of other games to keep us busy until then!

Yes Everyone in the game called me Ortega. It makes the game more fun i think and involves you just that little bit extra.

I understand what you are saying about calling it Zelda though. In MM zelda is not even featured in the game. Juts breifly in one of the cut scenes.

People actually called you Ortega then? Funny, I never noticed, oh well what's in a name? Apart from the fact that they're changing the name of a well established main character in an ongoing story. Seems a little foolish. Actually, the story seems to have never happened every time they make a new Zelda game. Zelda and Link (Ortega, or whoever) meet and fall in love, then they go off to fight the evil Ganondorf. Then suddenly there's a strange surge of weirdness that resets everything with a few differences. With the possible exception of Majora's Mask of course.

I've never been a fan of Zelda (well apart from the SNES version, which was okay) for several reasons. Firstly, why is it called Zelda when she's only ever in it for a few minutes? And why doesn't she really do anything especially useful? Shouldn't it be called Legend of Link? It's just so they can put in cheesy puns isn't it, like a Link to the past (aargh). Secondly it dared to call itself an RPG on the N64, a most heinous crime comparing it to the likes of Fallout and Baldur's Gate when it is clearly an action game. People could have bought it expecting role playing fun but recieved only quite linear action gameplay (a little freedom but not as much as there could have been). There's no character development, you can't name your character (your saved game maybe but you still must be link) and there's no choices of abilities and the like. An RPG? I think not! Another reason is that it's maybe a bit repetitive, the puzzles could stand to be more inventive than standing on the right block and playing the music (which is no challenge, It's possible to play a whole tune by running your finger across the controller and applying pressure at the right times in one second). The challenge I suppose is getting to the block, so perhaps I'll forgive it that (I would expect more from an RPG though).

Now, Majora's mask I haven't played but from what I've heard it's not too different from the other N64 Zelda game. So perhaps it's brilliant and perhaps it's classed as an action game, or maybe it even has character development, in which case it's not so bad. It remains to be seen if the new Zelda will be especially original or have anything that hasn't been done in a previous Zelda game. It would be good if they could make another good Zelda game (and call it Link, but they wont do that).

Okay, the changes to Zelda took place BEFORE E3, so why was the original Spaceworld video from 2000 shown again at E3?

You really have to watch the video... it looks a bit wierd... the Faries are there... the rupees, the hearts, the green guy and some trees, but how can you incorporate anything scarier than a pig into a game that looks like a Playdays excerpt... LMAO... imagine what Ganon looks like...

Hopefully, it will be more of a 'save the day' not 'kill the bad guy' setup...

But... Mario.... *drools....*

Strange. The shots I found looked like your average 3D platformer/adventure game.

I know I'm smart, but I can't answer that! How am I supposed to know why they said it!

Mind you, they might not have actually said that, with them being Japanese. They may have meant something similar to a cartoon, but the translation came out wrong.

Though the one screen shot I've seen does look similar a cartoon. But there are so many different styles of cartoon animation.....
