Yes, it`s been done before.
No, it won`t be as lond as the FOG version.

Why am I trying it out anyway?

The PS2 forum is a very interesting place to be, but it can also be a little quiet. I though perhaps if we had a topic with several hundred replies lurking at the top, things would look more popular.

Feel free to use the topic to talk about anything. Either the latest PS2 game, latest ideas for including some female star in a game etc... or even just the usual chat that happens all over.

As I expect this to fail, I`ve decided to spend a little while pushing up the replies. No spamming, just lots of nonsense :-)

Any help would be great, it`d be boring to have a whole topic with replies from only me.

Afternoon,

It really does sound a bit fishy there Jive. I'm off out for a paddle now, in my wellies and raincoat, to take advantage of this wonderful English summertime we're having :)

Was going to have a nice crisp salad for lunch but I might pick up a nice, hot, bowl of soup instead.

Oh um.

PS no there haven't been any power cuts at any of the sites when this drop in the service happened. There have been at our site 1, but that was Monday morning and this whole incident happened a week Monday ago. :(

Like I said, Pipex said they wouldn't offer any tech support on a VPN connection when I called them, even though they knew that it was a business link I was calling about.

Then a week later, they have this managed VPN service being offered to business users ... hmmm very fishy if you ask me!

Nope, no tests done by Pipex or BT as the line is working fine, ie web traffic etc runs through there no probs, it's just the VPN side don't work.

Interesting, have Pipex reported it to BT? if so have they tested the lines and reported feedback? cause that's the first thing Pipex should do if you report a fault with them. BT in turn will test the pairs by putting on loops at each end. Just out of interest, there hasnt been any power cuts at any of the sites recently has there?

Edit: Oh and who provides the the routers and the who creates the routing table to allow the users to talk to the other end? normally with VPNS you have a client/firewall relationship. Their machines will have the client and your firewall will hold their ip to allow them acces at your end.

The only thing I can think of is a line fault or the firewall has blocked out the users due to incorrect login or a powercut has corrupted the hardware and routing.

All the sites are just normal ADSL phone links, ie a telephone number has been converted to allow ADSL, at sites 2 and 3 they have a residential contention which I think is 50 : 1 - that's fine by us.

At site 1 it's a business link, ie paying more for service per month etc and is contested at 20 : 1.

No microwaves or any of that malarky :) just plain good old fashioned hard line telephones using the copper method ;)

All we do after that is have 3 routers sat the other end of the 3 sites, all the same make and all supposedly doing their VPN connections ... which as you know doesn't work :)

Hmm you're right, it's difficult to see what the problem might be without being there.

In comparison to our remote connections here, we use our own carrier network which we provide routing through and use BT to provide a private circuit line in order to set up an ADSL type connection to get people onto our network using via VPN and we also use our own hardware.

The only thing we use pipex for is Microwave/ATM links for ruralish sites.

So in terms of connectivity how does yours work? is your business line done though a private circuit provided by BT? or do you have any kind of Microwave link provided by pipex?
