Well, Soul Reaver on the PSX and DC has NO loading times... so if u are good at programming then u can avoid them. DOA2 has no loads in game on the DC either.

Anyway, I think the eternal darkness thing is just so that the developers can counter claims of huge loading times by saying "We did it on purpose!" ;)

Eternal Darkness, for the GC. That's what the developers said, anyway. Ok, so one game. But the evidence will grow.

But... in E3, developers, including third party ones, have said that they need to a0rtificially slow down their loading times inbetween screens because the transition between rooms, for example, were too quick.

who cares about the thing a game is stored on. Ok, there is a debate over Carts vs optical format... but to compare DVD and CD is pointless. If games need any extra space then they can use more and more CDs/DVDs... without adding to the game cost!

The ONLY thing that should matter is loading times... and the fact is that NO ONE has actually seen a GC game's loading times... so we shall wait and see

Besides, in lots of games for the PS and PC, the Games were only about 80MB added with FMV and Music to fill the CD.

And if compression does cause a loss in quality then games like Zelda and Perfect Dark hid it very well.

Games like that were huge and if Nintendo and Rare can cram all that into a miniscule cart, God knows what they'll pull off using disks that hold about 50 times as much...
