Do you mean something like the limit breaks and Trance levels from the Final Fantasy games? If so, I agree, they are the best!

In some RPG's and fighting games there are the great powerups. In the Final Fantasy series you are powering up all the time, and everything you add to weapons or armor gives you something new to unleash in battles every time, which is why the series is so good, every battle is different in some significant way.

My favourite of all is the type of powerup that builds up as you receive damage, letting you unleash a tirade of attacks at your enemy once you've reached a certain level of invulnerablility.

Skies of Arcadia had some great powerups like Captains Wrath, where you could get every character in the game to attack your enemy in one hit, with great animations for each blow, but it was very hard to get it as most battles were over by the time you'd stored up enough 'spirit level' to use it.

Going on the basis that original is still the best, Galaxian was a fun game because of the powerups, and games like Unreal Tournament (still basically shoot 'em ups) carry on that tradition with armour and weapon powerups scattered all throughout the game.

The only rule we've ever had in a multiplayer game is no short people in Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. And no auto aim.

Power ups are ok because everyone has equal useage of them. The blue shell in it is good.

hmmm... power ups??

I can't really think of any at the moment as I don't really like games with power ups in, when I have a game like Mario Kart and I am playing two player there is a rule that you cannot use them.
