Yup. It's out.

It's about time there was an alternative to Halo. Looks like this is it, and judging from the early insight given by the 200+ MB Demo, i'd say it kicks halo's ass in almost every way.

The vehicles kick ass, and I can see some similarities between It and Halo.

Halo had the banshee, UT2k4 has the Raptor - two very similar aircraft, both with plasma style weapons and explosive secondary attacks. Heck, the wings on both craft even leave little air trails...
Halo had the Warthog, UT2k4 has the HellBender - two very similar vehicles, with a driver, gunner, and secondary gunner.
Halo had the Scorpion, UT2k4 has the Goliath. Two tanks, both with cannons and MG's.
Halo had the Ghost, UT2k4 has the Manta. Again, two hovercraft, both with light weaponry.

Ut2k4 also has the Scorpion (I think that's the name), a Buggy type car with a top-mounted turret that fires electric 'ropes', a very inventive weapon, might I add.

Thankfully, it runs just as fast as UT2k3, has a nice new-ish look to things, and has great gameplay too, in my opinion.
Unlike Halo, which was sluggish and buggy, and lacked the 'Aaahhh, having a PC is worthwhile' feeling.

As always, some nice new weapons are included, and the assault mode is back with spectacular style. It really is so VERY impressive.

I Personally think that we're looking upon a game that'll make a bigger impression than we think. Definitely worth checking out.

From where? £17.99 is a bargain! I must know.

The Game has a few problems with fps on onslaught and assault for alot of people but should be fixed by the full version.
Although i'm holding out if they'll give a rebate to ut2003 owners...

Not forgetting the two giant spikes that can be used as secondry fire, chopping down anyone close enough to the vehicle. I have to say, I wasn't really impressed with UT2003, didn't think much of the demo and never got the game, but 2004 is addictive.

It's basically, Battlefeild 1942 on a sugar rush, so fast and frantic you can barely keep up but it's what makes the game fun to play. I also love the Assault mode, jumping from one moving truck to the other while fighting off the oposition is exciting, and the mission brief you get at the beggining is an excellant way to introduce the level.

I'm glad I pre-ordered this now, especially since I've got it for £17.99, at that price it's practically a steal and it's yet another game to look forward to.

Averaging at around 55 at 1024x768, and about 45 at 1280x1024

nice.

I have UT2k4 running at 1024x768, max detail and all additional trimmings, and i'm getting around 40 or 50 - it's damn smooth, but i'll check anyway.

To see the FPS you're getting, just type in console (tab):

Stat fps

type in that and it'll recall the current FPS and the average since starting.

Just went on download.com to download this demo and they have this new cnet download manager. Seems very good so far. It runs in the background and you can hide your download near the clock section. It also allows you to pause/resume downloads. Very handy.
