Why did Nintendo even bother thinking about releasing another cartridge game like the N64. They must have known that gamind with CD's was the new era.

Here are a few reasons why the N64, shouldn't have been released:

1) Cartridge games are dearer to produce, therefore we, the customers, find the games more pricey which then leads to us not buying them.

2) The cartrides and the consoles are bulkier than other consoles.

3) Cartridge games have to be cleaned more often because the dust gathers in the hole were the cartridge is inserted.

4) If you push the cartridge in too forcefully, you can wreck them.

If you wanted, you could say ''Wht did they bring out CD based consoles if it was posible to have just the same efects with a cartridge console. If all consoles were cartridge based then maybe the games could be sold for less.

As DJ said because of the internet piracy would be high if Nintendo used CD's because people can copy them (look at the playstation).

By using cartridges people couldn't copy games so Nintendo would make more oney because people would have to buy their games.

Nintendo didn't use the CD format at that time because they still thought that punters would buy their games (and third party ones) solely on the fact tat they have great playability. Also, they thought that with the imminent reduction (at that time) of CD writers, piracy would be at a higher level than ever before. Having said that, I think they would have prefered to carry on with the cartridge format, if not other developers.

It is like living in a constant BIG, tiny world like in Super Mario. Most things to do with the N64 are GIGANTIC !!!
Rumble Packs, Controllers, Memory Cards or should I say BLOCKS!

How intresting, you know if only we could turn back the clock, then you could tell Nintendo all of this and they probably wouldn't have released the console.
