Here are a few reasons why the N64, shouldn't have been released:
1) Cartridge games are dearer to produce, therefore we, the customers, find the games more pricey which then leads to us not buying them.
2) The cartrides and the consoles are bulkier than other consoles.
3) Cartridge games have to be cleaned more often because the dust gathers in the hole were the cartridge is inserted.
4) If you push the cartridge in too forcefully, you can wreck them.
If you wanted, you could say ''Wht did they bring out CD based consoles if it was posible to have just the same efects with a cartridge console. If all consoles were cartridge based then maybe the games could be sold for less.

I'll give you a few reasons.. Super

true, damn true

Hmm, by the way Alan, what the hell is a cartrige game?? I thought that the N64 was a consle myself. CDs aren't weren't the new era. Cds limit the types of games you are able to make. Take for example Zelda, this is one of the many games that could never have been made on a CD. The reasojn being, Zelda is an expansive world, no levels no boundaries. The CD wouldn't have been able to do this because of the loading times and such things alike.

Obviously cartridges are more expensive to make, therefore they sell at a higher price than there CD counter parts. The fact is Nintendo thought that there loyal buyers would still be willing to shell out for the cartridge format of game, which I was. I knew if I wanted the games of the high quality I needed I was going to have to shell out 50 pounds or so for a game.
2) The cartrides and the
> consoles are bulkier than other consoles.
Okaaayy. That makes a lot of sense. A cartridge is bulkier than a console you say??? Thats strange I thought they were quite small. I wouldn't really say that a cartridge based console is going to be bulkier than a CD based one. Maybe they are slightly bigger, yes, but mainly it is due to Nintendo making a more interesting shaped case for there console. A rectangle is to boring for Nintendo, so they chose some strange shaped case with many a curve to it.
3) Cartridge games
> have to be cleaned more often because the dust gathers in the hole

I wouldn't really say that this is true. I have never, ever cleaned one of my cartridges unless you count blowing into them (which you shouldn't do by the way) cleaning. I find they are always reliable and tend to work after like one blow. Most of the time you only ever need to blow it if a lot of dust has built up inside the cartridge, which shouldn't happen unless you don't store them properly (i.e Spread across your bedroom floor).
4) If you push the cartridge in
> too forcefully, you can wreck them.
Maybe this is true, but I have stuck my cartidges in pretty hard before and have never encountered any problems such as damaged connectors. It must be a stupid person (e.g You Alan) that does this.

Of course they couldn't produce the same effects with a CD based console to a cartridge one. A CD based console (ther playstation) has a few games which wouldn't be possible on a cartidge, just like the N64 has some games that wouldn't be able to be done on CD.
One of the games not able to be done on cartridge would have to be any of the Final Fantasy games. The bottom line is they are too big to get on one cartrdge and no one is going to shell out 100 pounds for a game. This would be something like the price, naybe even more because the game just wouldn't fit on one cartridge, maybe not even two. Thats one of the advantage of using CDs.

you may say what was the point in Nintendo making the N64, but equally what was the point in sony bringing out a less powerfull console that was cd-based, here are some reasons why the Ps1 shouldn't have been released...
1) CD's while they may be flat they are still as big as cartridges!
2)While cd's may be cheap to produce, there are often flaws on games when they are relased, partly due to the media that they are released on...
3) as for dust, well you can still get dust on cd's and lot's of scratches, which seems to be common among a lot of psone owners, possibly because they leave their games lying around, hmmmm me think's so!
4) if you push cd's into a psone too hard then you can damage the mechanism inside, that include's parts like the lens/laser which is particulary easilly damaged, this also frequently occours when psone owners slam their fist down on their console causing it to misplace or break something inside, which i have known quite alot of psone owners to do, which is pretty sad considering they can't even look after their consoles properly...
In my opinion, cartridge based consoles are fine as long as you treat your console and games with care and respect, and you may say what was the point in bringing out the N64 but at the end of the day it is more powerfull, has better and more original games, has better developers and overall has been the better console all along! except psone owners just don't like to admit that the N64's better and that's what it all boils down to at the end, another psone owner trying to get 1-up over Nintendo! i rest my case...
slik !_!
You say CDs scrath easily, but that's only because you misuse them. If you misuse a cartridge it breaks too. Same argument.
I go to their house and say
“Lets play that one”
“Can’t is doesn’t work”
“Why?”
“Too badly scratched”
This goes on for many of his games.
Nintendo have stuck to cartridges since they were born so the stuck with their tradition.
Now Nintendo have gone to disks and I think personally it will be a great success. Cheaper games, big games, all produced quickly.
