Nintendo's western allies grow thinner.

As I have said countless times Nintendo have an army to be proud of in the East... but major developers are leaving Nintendo in their droves.

Midway are not the worlds worst developer, but they are no means the best either, Acclaim after losing Burnout have nothing new to offer the gamecube... Codemasters have some class software that could improve Nintendo's userbase but nothing essential... and Eidios have lost nearly all their best franchises bar Hitman.

But that doesn't mean a thing in the world of business. Granted from our pessemistic point of view Nintendo can lose THQ as well because they are also 'crap'... as long as EA, Ubisoft and ACtivision are on board all is okay... and all 3 are without a hint of slowdown.

But Mortal Kombat, Hitman, Extreme G and various others do sell systems... or at least are reasons why people SHOULDN'T get a Gamecube.

Because we no longer have them.

As I've said before Nintendo, if you are listening, and you said you are.... please offer some incentives for these developers to jump back on board... get some exclusives... some EA style deals just to ensure more multi-format games.

If you expanded Silicon Knights and Retro Studios from their one game a year between them status to massive developers then the situation would be less dire. But you haven't, in fact you've given them Metroid and Metal Gear Solid to developer... big games indeed but NOT Western games... these are games invented in Japan... you NEED to start grabbing some western games or inventing your own.

The choice is yours... a bit of dealing with major publishers such as Ubi-soft, Eidios, Atari and Acclaim or a multi-million investement into your 2 current teams making them large enough to support the west single handidly (Rare did it after all)...

Because if you don't do something... then I'm afraid no dual screen handheld or multi-million selling Resident Evil game can save you.

Umm... I swear the quote was looking at "focus groups", and one of those would be us Westerners, would it not?

Unless the Cube is only sold in Japan.

(Which it isn't.)

Did you learn to type in Japanese then? They're not interested in the industry outside Japan, I'm sure of it.

The chances of them stumbling along here are tiny, they'll be looking at Japanese forums... and even if they did arrive here they would take one look at all the drivel getting spoken and head off somewhere else.

Iwati-san: My predecessor was great at reading what the public wants, I have to make a more scientific approach by looking at focus groups, game websites and forums.

I don't think I could soley own a Cube without a PC or another platform due to the fact that the release calendar is so hit and miss. I buy very very few multiformat games and the first ones I have purchased for my Cube was in fact 007 Everything or Nothing which I bought earlier this morning. Hitman I will end up getting for my PC but there have been a few games that interest me or that I may end up wanting that are no longer on the Cube. Its disappointing but complaining really won't make a difference.

Lets see it this way.

When Hitman (not my best example mind) was released in JApan it sold miserably. Hitman 2 was never released. Hitman 2 in Europe on the other hand outsold mega smash hit Mario in 4 days.

The western market prefers uber-violence, sport, racers and games that aren't "that" Japanesey... Doshin the Giant is too Japanese for us to even consider it as good.

Nintendo used to own sports developer Left Field... Nintendo ditched them.

Nintendo used to own a company that developed the best in western style games. Nintendo sold them.

Now all that is left is Retro Studios and Silicon Knights... both companies are developing Eastern game ideas instead of developing these all important western titles.

I dunno about Hitman 2 outselling Resident Evil or MGS, but I know GTA did.
However, the main reason that you class games as "western" seems to be because you can shoot things and kill things.
Please explain to me the 'cutural differences' between Hitman 2 and MGS.

I don't want to argue I just think that saying Nintendo don't do well in the West because they don't make enough shooting and sports games is a moot point.
