Oh right, official topic. Here's my inital impressions then:

I both love it and feel disappointed at the same time. The GC controller is not suited to the MGS2 game mechanics.. holding guards hostage without shooting them in the back is tricky without the pressure sensitive buttons. Also the analogue stick is not as smooth, harder to judge walk/run.

Still gutted about the music changing, and some major disappointments in the voice acting:

Naomi isn't english.

Mei-ling isn't chinese

"Shut up in there will ya?!" is not the same.

I actually think even Col. Campbell is a different actor.

But David Hayter as Solid Snake still rocks!!

To make up for this, the new cut-scenes are breathtaking, especially Psycho Mantis introduction.

half life 2 and doom 3 look good but i have to say that i think twin snakes will be the best game this year on the cube. what other games are coming out this year that have some recognition because no1 really credits the cube any more :(

Metal Gear Solid 2 in the end was gutting, still better than the majority of games but it didn't live up to any of the hype and some sections were a pi$$ take for the so called "intelligent" gamer with sections just repeated over and over. The story was magnifico but there was something not right at all. The gameplay mechanics though were faultless and the additions to the roster were greatly welcomed in the second and will be greatly welcomed into the first.

Indeed. Best bits of MGS2 into the best MGS = Have 'it.

Going up the elevator at the beginning ruled, it was the first game of its kind I had played and it was a master piece. I remember getting all excited about being able to knock on walls and smoke cigarettes to see laser beams. Up until that point there really wasn't anything quite like it.

All I wanted from this remake was the extra Metal Gear Solid 2 features, improved visuals and a few more in-depth sections and by all accounts of what I have read and seen Silicon Knights have truly surpassed themselves once again.

32" pure flat is the only way I can truly enjoy DVD's so I shall be having one muchos soonos with 100hz refresh rate for all my JAP import DVD's.

As for Half Life 2, technically it will open its big data d*ck and it will urinate on all the competition this year. Metal Gear though is a personal fave and one game I caddany wait to get my hands on.

I have to agree.

Good thing Half Life 2 is on a GAD.

Twin Snakes will be brilliant.

I like the first area, with the helicopter and the spotlight. That bit itself ruled.

No way!

Twin Snakes will rock, but Half-Life 2 will be the game of 2004.
