Thing is, I'm now having a dilemma.
I know the X-Box is going to be good, but I'm going to be waiting at least 6-8 months for it.
I know the Dreamcast is good, because I've got one and an ever increasing number of great games for it, and games are getting cheaper more quickly by the day.
But, there's a PS2 for sale just a few clicks away, brand new, with DVD remote, for £269.99, from SR. I could order it now, with Onimusha, The Bouncer, GT3, Zone of the Enders and Red Faction, with no problems.
If I do that, though, it means that my budget will be more restricted when X-Box time comes about, it also means that my collection of 14 Dreamcast games (plus more in the pipeline) may get made redundant overnight, and there's not all that many games out for the PS2 that I really want at the moment, but more are sure to come later. (MGS2, anyone?).
WHAT DO I DO?????????
I have absolutely no regrets over getting a PS2.
Some people have all the luck. Not really I was left a grand by my auntie who died :-( but I bought my first pc with my sister.
You'll also get a pile more money from your interest over a year!
"Playstation 2 now or Xbox later!"
not a question I can answer from personnal experience though as I dont have enough cash to buy either. Normally I would advise people to get a Playstation 2 after all its a sure thing, its going to be the number 1 console until 2005.
However the Xbox and the GameCube could offer something new and exciting, something that may be very interesting to be a part of, and that means in your case perhaps a decision should be postponed.
Personally I'ld wait until November 8th at least to see how the Xbox and GameCube are recieved in America...after all if the Xbox has poor sales in America its doomed and wouldnt be worth touching with a long bargepoll! The GameCube will also have to do reasonably well in America (although its a safe bet to say the Japanese will love it), Americans still have a loyalty to Nintendo due to the success of the NES, SNES and to a lesser extent the N64 and all things Pokemon related!
Besides which since you have a Dreamcast Im sure there are enough quality titles to keep you entertained until at least November. Once the Xbox and GameCube launch in November youll be able to make a decision based on facts, and what each system has to offer...then if you decide its worth waiting an extra few months for Nintendos or Microsofts new baby the wait will be easier because youll be confident youve made a decision thats right for you (As oppossed to one based on impulse buying!).
To sum up from what I've heard the Xbox and GameCube are both going to bring something new to the games industry, something exciting that may be worth waiting for. The Playstation2 is popular and a safe bet, but the Xbox and GameCube could surpass it as the "coolest" console to own.
Basically wait till November then make your choice, if when presented with the facts you decide to buy a Playstation2 at least by then Sony may have dropped the price :-)
> What games have you got for your PS2 at the moment then?
ZOE- Sweet game, not amazingly tough to get through. Supendously difficult to get the alternate (and better) end sequence. I like its style:-)
Onimusha- Fantastic game, great graphics, great story, good replay value, decent difficulty curve.
Red Faction- My personal favourite. If you like FPS you'll love this!
SFEX3- I'm a huge fan of the street fighter series and thus, love this game. It did't get too good reviews though???
I've played a whole bunch of others (SSX, Crazy Taxi, GT3, etc) all damn fine games.
And plent more superb titles on the way!!!!!!!
>WHAT DO I DO?????????
Well, you can start by not asking any more silly questions, and continue by ordering that PS2. We all know the Xbox is going to fail miserably, anyway. ;-p
Seriously though... the choice is yours. There aren't many people who've bought a PS2 and been disappointed. Sure, there are a few, but there always are with any system.
One piece of advice, though.
If you DO get a PS2 with the games you mentioned, play GT3 last. You might not be able to leave it alone for long.
Speaking of which... I'm off to play it again now! Ta ta!
P.S. If you need a list of my games, check the thread "Your games" in the PS2 forum...
I have Timesplitters, Red Faction, GT3, Shadow Of Memories, Moto GP, SSX, and Zone Of The Enders.
