OK, here's the thing. My gran sold some shares, so I've got £1500 just sitting there in the bank account, and it's all 'disposable income' i.e. I can spend it on whatever I wish to.

Thing is, I'm now having a dilemma.

I know the X-Box is going to be good, but I'm going to be waiting at least 6-8 months for it.

I know the Dreamcast is good, because I've got one and an ever increasing number of great games for it, and games are getting cheaper more quickly by the day.

But, there's a PS2 for sale just a few clicks away, brand new, with DVD remote, for £269.99, from SR. I could order it now, with Onimusha, The Bouncer, GT3, Zone of the Enders and Red Faction, with no problems.

If I do that, though, it means that my budget will be more restricted when X-Box time comes about, it also means that my collection of 14 Dreamcast games (plus more in the pipeline) may get made redundant overnight, and there's not all that many games out for the PS2 that I really want at the moment, but more are sure to come later. (MGS2, anyone?).

WHAT DO I DO?????????

FM, what, the SR price list?

I imagine you should get 1 controller with it, it's pretty standard. As for the DVD remote, you had to buy that for the PS2 as well.

At least make me feel better by telling me that you will still get an XBox?

Please?

:-)

I think you're right, the X-Box is listed as $299, but it's not clear about whether or not the controller is included with that, the DVD is definitely not, and both controller and DVD playback kit are listed on the price list separately, as are the RF lead, memory cards etc.

five months isnt that long just look at how fast this year has gone, i'd wait too then you can compare the two,but you wont be able to get metal gear two on the x-box,and the x-box you have to buy something extra to allow dvd playback

oh if iam wrong about the dvd dont have a go at me please

Nooooooooo!!!!!!!

You've turned to the dark side!

You'd better still get an XBox or I'll be the only person on here with one!

Me and Turbonutter were discussing this on MSN Chat and talking about available games.

There's a rather nifty rankings site that lists all games for all formats.

PS2 has 231 listed
NGC has 12 listed
X-Box has 32 listed
DC about 262 listed
N64 about 276 listed
PSX a whopping 689 listed

So out of that lot and going for a 128-bit console, the DC has great choice, and so does the PS2. Out of the next gen choices between PS2/X-Box/Gamecube, Gamecube is definitely out, of the 12 listed games two of them have Mario connections and one has a Super Smash Brothers connection, not my favourite genre of game.

That leaves X-Box and PS2. Hence my dilemma. PS2 has a MASSIVE 231 games either out or due out, X-Box I know for a fact has more than 32 games in development, they just aren't listed, same with the Gamecube.

With the X-Box I'll be playing brand new games, the like of which will be completely new. But maybe I'm fearing the unknown a bit.

With the PS2, however, I'll be playing a lot of the same stuff I played when I had on the PSX, just with better graphics, sound, gameplay, levels....then there's all the new stuff coming out for it....

Oh hell. I'm gonna get a PS2.

I say still say wait.

Play your DC games, have fun with that 'til christmas.

By then the XBox will have been out a month in the US, you can get a feel for it from places on the 'net.

The PS2 may even be down in price by then...

Go to autotrader.com, search the used cars, type in £1500 on any make and see what you get. Anything up to even an L reg can be had for that kinda money.
