Being a die-hard Nintendo fan is not easy you know. Every morning I get up, bow to my Gamecube, kiss all my joy pads and religiously study the manuals of all my Nintendo games (SNES. NES, N64, Gamecube and Gameboy). Every piece of negative news I spin into a positive light, I do it so well, Nintendo should hire me as their PR wizard.

But I’ve had enough. Nintendo you are one ******* stupid bloody piece of ****. That’s right it is I, the legendary Dringo, he who can not be slain by Playstation and starves off the threat of the X-box who is saying this you proud ******. What the hell are you playing at? I’m a WESTERN NINTENDO FAN, I don’t get all those ******* titles from Japan with the words Giftipia or Animal Forest printed on the side. And the ones I do get, Doshin the ******* Giant, turns out to be a pile of utter toss.

Every time I spin some negative news article into a positive light but why? Who’s the idiot now ah? You cut second party ties with a certain Left Field, Left Field (NBA courtside and Excitebike 64) are your sports developer; they make your sports games. But oh look you don’t REALLY need them now SEGA has gone multi-format with their sports range. So remove them, who cares. Oh well look at that, less than a year later and SEGA cancel all their sports titles for the Gamecube. WOOPS! Now whom can you turn to? That’s right NO ONE, I have noticed you are now making your own mature sports games (the upcoming Legend of Golfer) but it’s too late.

Ah yes Nintendo, now onto Rare Ware. My previous status was that “they’re crap anyway” and that “they lost Nintendo money”. ********, you ARE dumb aren’t you Nintendo? Want to know why they didn’t make you much money in the year before you sold them? Because they didn’t ACTUALLY release any bloody games! Rare Ware are an unresponsive developer but they were your other half, they are more than Silicon Knights, Left Field, HAL etc... put together. They made Banjo, Conker, Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong and Perfect Dark… all of these are BIG Nintendo releases, well they would have been if you hadn’t ******* sold them! Look at this, your sales aren’t up to scratch! Could this be down to a certain absence of a company that made half your AAA titles? It nearly forced me away, but then that was okay, at least you have Retro Studios and Silicon Knights.

Oh Sympathy where have you gone.

First off you crush Retro Studio’s. A bit of a re-shuffle was needed, EAD’s help was appreciated on Metroid Prime. BUT did you really need to destroy the 4 teams that were there into 1? Raven Blade, that racer and that football game WAS exactly what Nintendo Gamecube lacks. A decent footy game, a decent exclusive racing title and a mature action RPG. But you cancelled them. Did you really have to scrap all those games?

And now modern day. The one that made me snap. I love Silicon Knights. True they are hardly a true example of Nintendo (prefer cinematic gameplay and adult games) but that was the point. Nintendo you’ve told me time and time again how you want to be more “adult” and Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes are YOUR most mature games. And you cut ties with the company behind them? Too Human can now return to the PS2, which it was originally coded for, and you’ve lost yet another special western developer.

I know Nintendo. You have loads of second parties, some I never even knew about including that new sports developer SETA (ever heard of them? No neither have I). But Rare, Silicon Knights, the full Retro team and Left Field could have all pushed Nintendo in both Europe and America. You would have defeated Microsoft and competed more fiercely. But instead you try to get exclusives from other companies that simply do not sell. Capcom are having to cancel their plans to keep Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7 exclusive and cannot wait for the Resident Evil deal to expire. Namco are doing okay but that’s because they hardly support Nintendo as much as they support Sony. SEGA have been drifting away ever so slowly, remember the Virtual Fighter RPG and the sonic series were once exclusive to Nintendo. They are both now lost.

So tell me Nintendo, who do you have left to sell your product to the western world? You don’t have Rare, you don’t have Silicon Knights, you don’t have Left field. Christ you don’t even have Capcom anymore. And in fact you’ve even lost Dringo, your most avid supporter. Sure I love Zelda and Mario, but I’m a western gamer, I have western needs and the only western game you actually make is Metroid Prime, and I don’t even like it.

Maybe one day you’ll acquire some killer, high profile companies such as Capcom, Midway or Free Radical Design. But in the mean time I need to raise funds for an X-box. After all a western Nintendo fan needs his Rare.

Dringo.

I agree Rickoss.

Although PGR2 really isn't all that great, as of yet.

Brrrr......brrrr.......brrr......screech!

Oh no, I lost.

Brrrr.....

yay, I won!

It's very well made, but I haven't got into it yet so much. Main redeeming feature however, was the fact it played 'Cosmopolitan Bloodloss' by Glassjaw as its' first track ever.

Well to think about it logically it is only really a disaster to us.

Silicon Knights produced 1 game every year and a bit... because they are a single team.

Factor 5 are also a single team and they produce a game every year and a half.

Nintendo have just signed a deal for one game with N-space, Zoonami, Kuju and SETA. As well as some more I hope to see at E3.

Technically Nintendo have lost 2 titles from 2 top developers...

But have gained about 4-5 titles from other top developers.

Looking at it logically and it doesn't seem that dire.

But I will miss Silicon Knights.

I'll give you that JSRF is overrated, but PGR2 boring?!?! It's the best racing game ever, bar none. Apart from the lack of a tuning option (which I really would liked to see), it's near-perfect. Give me it over Mario Kart or F-Zero GX any day... and I LOVE Mario Kart.

As for Nintendo's situation, with the loss of Factor 5 as well, things just keep getting worse and worse. I though Treasure, them and Amusement Vision could well turn into second parties of Nintendo's very soon, but it seems not. I'm sure they're miss exclusive Star Wars titles; playing Rogue Leader multiplayer just proves how brilliant they are, and made my PS2-owning friend want a Cube for it (along with the Rersi 4 trailer I showed him :-)).

I won't miss them as much as Silicon Knights, but it seems that Nintnedo are starting to crumble in terms of support. They really are very, very stupid.

They something big to happen, and soon. I'm always going to love my Cube, probably always more so than any other consoles thanks to Prime, ED (*sniff*), Zelda, Mario Kart and the huge array of brilliant exclusives it has, but E3 needs somethign to keep me interested, otherwise instead of Pokemon Collosseum, Donkey Konga, Custom Robo... I may well spend my money on Crimson Skies, Halo 2, Half Life 2.... they may not be Nintendo games, but god they looks tempting.

I honestly believe Wind Waker is one of the most beautiful games ever.

And remember Retro Studio's is a Nintendo team, just like Imtelligent Studio's and EAD... so Metroid Prime is made by Nintendo.

Maybe you are right and Nintendo have yet to push the machine to its extremes. As it has been repeatidly commented upon that their games so far, not all have been as dramatic pushes of the machines capabilities as it should be. I personally feel Mario Kart: Double Dash is a great sign of things to come though, a technically sound experience with an awful lot of depth, coupled with some challenge.

Wind Waker 2, Pikmin 2, Starfox 2, Metroid Prime 2 I believe, personally, will push the machine to both its graphical and gameplay limits.

Whilst Donkey Konga, Paper Mario 2 and Four Swords will be a nice addition to the more obscure titles.

There are 2 fundamental things I'd pay to see at E3... the only AAA franchise not released on the Gamecube thus far, an actual Donkey Kong platformer... and a selection of new, exclusive third party software from Namco, Capcom, Konami, SEGA and Square...

Then, for the time being, I can be slighlty content.

Because, like you said, they are completely out of fashion in the west apart from the die hard, which aren't a big market on their own.
And as big as their liquid assets are, MS and Sony have so many sources of income, they can throw money at a console to kingdom come and still keep going. Nintendo can't replenish losses so easily.

I think we've still yet to see the best from the Gamecube.
I mean Metroid and Starfox are probably nearly as good as it can get graphically, Metroid is probably the closest to a perfect alround game on the machine, and Nintendo haven't put their full effort into a SINGLE game yet.

I think now Nintendo have got all the ground game engines in place, the next wave of games will feature a lot more content, and third parties are just starting to get to grips with the console's architecture...

It is a skill.

No but seriously, insult Nintendo for their bussiness sense and I'll ignore it, insult Nintendo for their lack of support in the west and I'll support it.

Call them crap and criticise the excellent GBA-GC idea then that's just stupid.

Nintendo have $6.2 billion in liquid assets... tell me why they hell they cannot go head to head with Sony and Microsoft?

I've decided E3 can make or break Nintendo, if third parties like Konami, Capcom and Namco announced new exclusive software for the Gamecube and Nintendo keep their promise and showcase AAA titles Paper Mario 2, Pikmin 2, Wind Waker 2, Metroid Prime 2 as well as the DS then I'd be fine.

It all hangs on the third party offering.

When Nintendo said they aren't competing with MS and Sony then it could still be like that.

Although the Gamecube hasn't sold as well, there are still lots of potential buyers and as it gets cheaper with more games it'll become more tempting.

Now, seeing as the Gamecube's full potential hasn't been touched yet, I reckon it could go for another 3 years atleast.
Nintendo would need to focus it's business strategy and go for the budget approach.

The Xbox2 and PS3 would appear for £200+ minimum and possibly £300+.
The Gamecube would sit for £50 with a game, plus a huge back catalogue of unique catalogue.
They could market it as a cheap gizmo to fill in the wait for the Xbox2 and PS3 to come out.
The period between the current generation dying and the next generation being born is when Nintendo have the best chance of getting their box into people's homes.

But if they announce an N5, then they'll do things:
They'll be going head to head with MS and Sony again - bad move.
They'll make the Gamecube look obselete so people would be a LOT less inclined to buy it, knowing that barely anymore new games would be released for it.

If Nintendo skipped a generation and got the whole world hooked on their budget games, and then released a new killer console about year before the generation after, all the people who had fallen in love with their franchises would be eager to see what this new console could do, and they'd have an instant userbase.

It COULD work, but are Nintendo business savy anough? :-O
