Okay, here goes…
An elderly man woke up one morning and was about to have a shave. He picked up the razor and started shaving his beard while looking at the mirror. The man then put his glasses on only to see that he had an even bigger beard but not grey like it was before and he didn’t have glasses on anymore.

Cut it in half and you get two separate circles. The number zero, naught or whatever you call it is a circle basicly, so
you half 8 to get naught.
Understand now?

It may not be your answer, but you can make the letter 3 with 5 matches.
One across the top, one down the side, another halfway out, another going down and another for the bottom
