Ka-ching ! Out comes Bills wallet and apparently the two companies are currently talking about a deal.
Also got some other pretty hot info too - some of it was pretty damn interesting.
First off, don't believe all this talk of no hard drive in the next XBox console. Quoting my source "Why would we remove the hard drive ? Taking the hard drive out of the XBox would be like Dodge taking the Hemi out of the Durango !" (for all those that don't know, the Hemi is the bloody great engine in the Dodge Durango truck).
Next, the situation with EA. Microsoft is getting tired of the Live problems with EA and have put their foot down. When it comes to sports titles, EA apparently sells on the ratio of like 4 to 1 against the likes of ESPN games, etc. Basically, EA have been given the line "Either you stop messing us around and get those sports titles on Live, or that contract thats due for updating next March won't be going through." (as far as I remember the contract runs out in March next year).
The XSN Sports network is going to stop. If you're signed upto it and stuff and own the existing titles, then you'll still be able to play. But don't expect any titles like NFL Fever, etc to get an update in the foreseeable future. Of course, titles like Top Spin 2 and another Links game are in the works. What IS happening though, is that this sports network idea is going to be handed to Sega who will use it with their sports titles. Also, apparently MS and Sega are in talks on the subject of MS buying Sega.
Now, this will interest quite a few people. The Rare deal. Not well known, but MS actually owned Donkey Kong for 48 hours. They could have stopped Nintendo from using the characters in the Donkey Kong games - but they didn't. In fact, they gave Nintendo the Donkey Kong license for nothing. Seems really nice of them huh ? Well this is where things get tasty (or horrifying - depending on your standpoint).
Now I don't remember which way around this went, but I know about a fine or something that had to be paid before Square could develop the likes of Final Fantasy on the GC.
MS also paid this fine for Nintendo which was quite substantial. So why all this friendly stuff ?
Well, word is that Nintendo are going to have one last bash at the home console, if it bombs, then Nintendo will go software only (although they will still stick with the handheld market and produce the Gameboys).
Ok, so lets look to the future a little and say that Nintendo do exactly this - they're now software only on the home consoles. Who do they develop for ? The company that started their downfall ? (Sony). Or, the company that helped them out ?
So there you have it. Rockstar and Sega on the verge of being bought, EA given a slap in the face, a hard drive in the next Microsoft console and Nintendo as a possible future developer.
So the question is, is your source credible? I'm tempted to try and get the hold of an old pal who is now one of Nintendo's legendary lawyers and see if I can get anything more out of her.
F Zero X on Live...
Outrun Online... GTA East End Of Glasgow Live...
Suddenly I feel so unfulfilled by all current games.
Like you said, it opens up so many possibilities. :-) I mean with Rockstar, even beyond GTA, you have to look at the other games they've been bringing out. :-)
And then if the Nintendo thing works out in Microsofts favour, maybe that could lead to Square making games for the Xbox too and will leave the Resident Evil series open to MS. Gradually it looks like Microsoft is putting Sony against the ropes. More and more popular developers are warming to the XBox and with a couple of these big names looking into an MS buyout, theres going to be less and less reason to own a Sony console.
At the moment, Sony are fine, its over the next few years that we could well see a stranglehold on them. Japan is the tough nut to crack, but imagine if the likes of Sega and Nintendo develop exclusively for the XBox along with possible support from Square oneday. I think it would become only a matter of time before the Japanese warmed to the console.
Of course if Nintendo do play a part in games development for the XBox, it won't be the current console, but at the same time, its still an interesting future prospect.
The graphics are no better than Xbox, the sound isn't as good and there's absoloutly nothing else that it does better than the Xbox version.
