"PSP unveiled"

Holy crap! I'm so getting me one of these. Doesn't look to dissimilar to the prototype revealed last year, except that it's black, has a proper D-pad and some volume facia buttons. In short, it looks awesome.

The pics I've got from a press site show it with Gran Turismo 4 - not the PS2 version, the PSP version. How the hell did they keep that under wraps?

Sony execs, listen up - as long as you don't charge over £250 for this thing, you're going to make more money than Jesus by selling this sweet baby. Just get it out before summer next year and you'll be laughing. Laughing I tells ya! Compare it to the (let's face it) really dull mock-up of the Nintendo DS (found on Eurogamer.net) and it jizzes right it in its coffee.

Right. PSP looks to be an extremely good little machine. It looks good, it seems it can handle pretty tasty stuff (well, as much as GT4 can be described as tasty... yack) and it'll sell unbelievably well because of the image and brand. But, unless I can be proven wrong, I feel it's a mini PS2. I.e, the same lack of great games, bar a few truly excellent titles, which aren't exactly mind blowing when compared to the best of GC and Xbox, except maybe a FF game. The DS, while being uglier, is powerful and looks should mean nothing. Plus, the 16 player wireless world thing looks cool. But that's my view, and I've said it many a time. Both machines look brilliant, the PSP will probably 'win', but the DS looks inventive and pretty damn clever.

That thing that looks like a speaker on the lower right hand side.. it's a pop up analogue stick :D

edit - in the history of poor marketing strategies, it's close, but Sega are definitely the worst. Nintendo may fail to meet targets, but Sega just failed :-(

No, you mean Nintendo couldn't fail marketing it.. :)

It's all in the marketing, and that's what Sony do well. There's a really good publicity shot going around already with lots of people all listening to music on their PSPs and stuff.... even Sega couldn't fail to mess up the marketing on a product this desirable.

Anyway, on the games front : Metal Gear Acid is a brand new MG game, developed by Hideo Kojima himself!

The Ridge Racer title is a brand new game in the series :D

I might not get any of them.

I think Snuggly said that it should be comming out before the summer next year, if thats true then i wont be getting the PSP because i need money to save up for Xbox 2 which should be coming out soon.

Personnely, I'd rather have a DS, simply because I love Nintendo games and it has 2 screens AND it has a cool touch sensitive screen. Although, I do admit that PSP looks good...

This on the other hand looks "cool", it looks adult enough that I could carry it around, and if I met a chick whilst I had one in my pocket she's not going to laugh and makes jokes about boys and toys. Well, not Toys R Us type toys anyway.

Bottom line is this is a handheld that looks like it could appeal to an older target market whilst with it being a Sony and part of the Playstation brand, we know it will sell buckets. Price has just gone out the window in the worries stakes.

Money saving is hard.
