"PSP unveiled"

Holy crap! I'm so getting me one of these. Doesn't look to dissimilar to the prototype revealed last year, except that it's black, has a proper D-pad and some volume facia buttons. In short, it looks awesome.

The pics I've got from a press site show it with Gran Turismo 4 - not the PS2 version, the PSP version. How the hell did they keep that under wraps?

Sony execs, listen up - as long as you don't charge over £250 for this thing, you're going to make more money than Jesus by selling this sweet baby. Just get it out before summer next year and you'll be laughing. Laughing I tells ya! Compare it to the (let's face it) really dull mock-up of the Nintendo DS (found on Eurogamer.net) and it jizzes right it in its coffee.

Just seen the PSP video, with PS2 quality versions of Ape Escape, Metal Gear, Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, ATV and Tony Hawk. Holy God.

Design-wise, the PSP kills.
The DS does indeed look gay - I actually laughed when I saw the first piccies, thinking them fakes. Then I cried, when they were confirmed.

Not nice.

But I think I'd rather the DS - in private.
In public, of course, the PSP. Because, in the big, wide, shallow world, Sony is king. Shame.

Personally, I think it looks the bomb. Why? Well, apart from the slinky design and movie/music compatability, it's going to have all the PlayStation games I know and love on it. You say that it's the same old software you can get on PS2, but what if you haven't got a PS2? Or, like me, you have an Xbox/GameCube and don't plan to continue buying PS2 games?

I'm going to Uni in September and am not taking my PS2 with me. However, I'll buy one of these and still enjoy PES, Metal Gear, Gran Turismo et al. The DS, while it has interesting features, doesn't interest me at all. I still haven't seen a genuinely innovative use for the two screens or touchpad yet in any games, all the screenshots from the E3 presentation have had lame little map screens which are pointless.

And it looks gay. Sorry, couldn't help it.

I'll only buy one if it has some kind of PES game on it.

I'd much rather play a totally new dual-screen Mario adventure than the same Gran Turismo game I can play on the PS2, only in smaller and more difficult-to-control form.

Not too bothered.

Yeah I hate that too, that's why I put my TV into 4:3 mode for those games ;-)

Most important thing about the PSP??

It has a widescreen, finally games companies might actually start providing widescreen TV owners with widescreen resolutions.

I hate playing anything which isn't supposed to be in widescreen in a normal resolution, it looks all stretched, brownie points go to Microsoft for supporting widescreen resolutions on the hardware, brownie points go to Sont for GT3 widescreen, and brownie points to rockstar north for GTA widescreen, everyone else is BAD!!

Maybe all PS2 games will now support widescreen :D

if it has AV out, and I can wire it up to my TV to play movies, games etc on and to my stereo to hear sound from games, films and MP3s, I WILL BUY ONE OF THESE :D

Question about ign. Do you have to pay to subscribe to watch the vids and see pics etc or its there a free part to it all with vides etc?

Nintendo have to ask themselves something else... will the public be happy having shelled out for the GBA, only to have it superceded shortly after by the SP, and now being asked to upgrade again to something that will play the same games, just to take advantage of whichever games have the new gimmick incorporated. All of this while also being aware that Nintendo are working on ANOTHER gameboy??? It's madness.
