I bought Gamesmaster today and they had a look at San Andreas. Here's what they said:

"Rockstar have done it again. Firstly, San Andreas isn't San Francisco, Las Vegas or Los Angeles, as everyone thought - it's all three. The State of San Andreas is made up of three areas: Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturra - each of which is roughly the same size as Vice City. They'll be seperated by countryside too, which means - if you've been paying attention - that San Andreas is going to be at least three times bigger than the last game.

Main character Carl Johnson's come back to San Andreas after five years in the Liberty City slammer, to investigate the murder of his mother. That's not the end of the family strife, though - big bro' Sweet (rumoured to be 50cent) blames him for their younger brother Brian's death, and they're all caught up in the gang war sweeping the cities. And if that makes Carl sound like the put - upon hero, don't worry - you'll still be able to cause plenty of mischief. Here's what else is confirmed as new:"

BURGLING - Massively improved building interiors mean you'll be able to nick stuff from inside peoples houses and offices.

GAMBLING - You can run a casino in Las Ventura - or just fritter your cash away on the tables.

EATING - A stamina meter means you'll have to keep topped up with pizza and chips to stay healthy - like Snake Eater.

GANG WAR - Improved AI means you'll be able to recruit a gang and take them along on tough jobs for maximun carnage.

CYCLING - Erm, yes - you'll be able to pedal your way around - although given the size of the place, you'll probably want to take a bottle of Lucozade.....

And the rest:

It's set in the 90's

The combat's being improved, loosely based on Manhunt

Pedestrian AI has also been improved, they won't just walk past while you murder someone.

Ragdoll physics (personally, I'm very pleased about that)

I think this may be a joke, but it says that you actually put on weight when you eat the burgers and stuff, but you can go to the gym to get fitter.

There's also screenshots as well but you'll need to get the mag to see them, but the game looks a lot more polished than Vice City. It certainly seems like a very ambitious title, I just hope Rockstar can pull it off.

It'll make it's way onto X-Box eventually though, so it won't be a proper exclusive. However, I'm more than happy with the PS2 version.

I traded my PS2 versions for the X-Box versions, but aside from the visuals and sound, there wasn't any other major improvements. However, I've now traded the X-Box versions for the PS2 ones again, as I prefer the PS2 controller with these particular games. Plus, I want to have all the GTA games for the same format.

I doubt that the stamina bar will have as much of an impact as that. It's more likey to effect, well, your stamina. I don't think you'll be able to die of hunger, it's more likely that you won't have much energy to run about or something like that. Anyway, dying of hunger would be the last of your worries when you're surrounded by a bunch of gangsters with itchy trigger fingers.

I totally agree with you in the sense that GTA is evolving but I think that it is expanding too rapidly. I don't think that food is a good idea. e.g - Being in the middle of an assasination and you die of hunger. That sucks majorly. Oh well, you never know, It might be a welcome addition.

I'll be the first to admit, I said the same thing to Alistair a few weeks back. But now that I think about it, GTA seems to be evolving into something else, something bigger than just stealing cars and being a gangster. It's getting to the stage where you're practically living the virtual life of another person and all these little features bring the game that little bit closer to reality.

You're still going to be able to steal cars and live the gangster lifestyle, obviously, but there's no harm in expanding on this and allowing the series to evolve into something a little more involving.

I actually though that being able to eat was a pretty neat touch. It's just like Harvest Moon, you need to eat to stay alive. And it'll be good if it does actually affect your fitness, maybe having bicycles in it won't be such a bad idea, it'll keep you fit and healthy.
